Participating in the program were students from the skills clubs of Nguyen Trai, Phan Chau Trinh, Thai Phien, Nguyen Thuong Hien, Lien Chieu, and Hoa Vang high schools. The teams transformed into heroic leaders, embarking on a strategic battle, recreating the heroic spirit of the era when Dinh Bo Linh quelled the rebellion of the twelve warlords and unified the country.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hanh Quyen, Secretary of the Youth Union at Nguyen Trai High School, shared: “This is not only a place for students to practice their Youth Union and Student Association activities, but also a space to awaken national pride and a deep love for history, preserving the values that our ancestors painstakingly cultivated.”
Ngo Van Hau, former head of the first generation of the Skills Club, said: "We hope that through the grand game 'Ancient and Modern Vietnam,' the club will continue the tradition, bringing the ancient cultural identity closer to everyone, especially the younger generation."
"Journey Through Vietnam: Ancient and Modern" Season 5 is divided into four stations, each named after a historical landmark associated with the Dinh Dynasty. Each station presents a challenge with coded messages, news bulletins, physical games, and activities related to practical social skills. Teams need not only historical knowledge but also teamwork, adaptability, and youth skills.
The journey begins meaningfully at the Bo Hai Khau - Dang Chau - Do Dong Giang station, with a ceremony of offering incense at the martyrs' cemetery in Hoa Khanh ward. The remaining three stations are Tay Phu Liet - Phong Chau - Tien Du, Tam Dai - Hoi Ho - Duong Lam, and Binh Kieu - Te Giang - Sieu Loai. Each location is designed with a strong epic, educational , and experiential theme, captivating students through each challenge.
Nguyen Ngoc Anh Thy, a student from Phan Chau Trinh High School and the team captain, enthusiastically shared: “Each station we passed was a slice of history that we not only learned about but also lived through. It was fun, exciting, and most importantly, something to be proud of. I believe my teammates will remember it for a long time.”
Trinh Truong Ai My, a student from Nguyen Trai High School and the club's leader, expressed: "We've been preparing for this journey for a long time, from writing the script, dividing into teams, creating secret messages, to developing games. This is not only a challenge, but also an opportunity for us to grow and bond more closely. I feel very proud to contribute to bringing history closer to our peers through the perspective of the younger generation."
Commenting on the program, Ms. Vo Thi Nhu Y, Secretary of the Lien Chieu Ward Youth Union, remarked: “‘Ancient and Modern Vietnam’ is a prime example of effective coordination between the Youth Union and Student Association in schools and the local community. This clearly demonstrates that traditional education should not only be found in books, but needs to be brought to life through practical activities like this. I think this model should be replicated.”
Mr. Nguyen Duc Phuoc, Party Secretary and Principal of Nguyen Trai High School, emphasized: “We want to create conditions for students to experience, learn about, and deeply understand the cultural and historical values of Vietnam. This journey is also part of the comprehensive educational development orientation that the school is building.”
The "Vietnam: Ancient and Modern" journey was initiated in 2018. Due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the program was interrupted for two seasons, and has now held five actual seasons. Each season is a journey linked to a specific period, a historical figure, or a cultural space. Young people will embody historical figures, travel to significant historical sites, overcome challenges, decipher secret messages, engage in folk exchanges, and apply life skills to complete the journey.
