'It would be crazy for MU to let Mainoo leave'

Speaking to the Daily Mail on April 19th, the former Liverpool midfielder analyzed: "It would be crazy for Manchester United to let Mainoo leave. If anyone has forgotten Mainoo's talent, what he showed in extra time against Lyon has proven it. A player who can withstand pressure at such a young age is a valuable asset that manager Ruben Amorim can utilize."

Mainoo came on in the 87th minute of the Europa League quarter-final second leg against Lyon on April 18th. He scored the equalizer for the "Red Devils," making it 4-4 and setting the stage for Harry Maguire to seal the 5-4 victory just one minute later.

In Mainoo's goal, the midfielder showed skillful ball control in the penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot, which Murphy said was "on par with any real striker."

"I'm surprised Mainoo hasn't been given more playing time for Manchester United this season," Murphy further commented. "Especially when the team is having problems in midfield. I know Mainoo has been injured. I also know Amorim thinks Mainoo has been weak defensively in some games, but that's normal for a young midfielder in the Premier League. He's adapting to different positions within the team's system."

The former Liverpool midfielder believes Mainoo has the potential to develop his defensive capabilities with enough support from his teammates and coaching staff. Murphy also suggests that Amorim doesn't seem to have complete faith in Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte, so Mainoo remains a promising long-term solution for the Reds.

The Old Trafford team will host Wolves in the 33rd round of the Premier League on the night of April 20th.

Manchester United's two goals in the draw against Lyon: Leny Yoro and Zirkzee scored in the 2-2 draw between MU and Lyon in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals on the morning of April 11th.
