Saudi Arabian clubs are allowed to register additional foreign players. |
Saudi Arabian media reports that the Saudi Pro League organizers will allow each team to register 10 foreign players with no age limit starting from the 2025/26 season. This will provide a significant incentive for Saudi Arabian teams to attract top world stars.
Previously, the league stipulated a maximum of 7 foreign players per team, which was later expanded to 8 foreign players to encourage the appearance of stars from around the world.
In the past season, the Saudi Pro League organizers allowed each team to register eight non-Asian players and two additional foreign players under the age of 23.
These changes are not only aimed at improving the quality of the tournament but also affirm Saudi Arabia's ambition to transform its league into one of the world's leading competitions.
Al Ahli, representing Saudi Arabia, brilliantly won the AFC Champions League Elite last season. The club's success is thanks to the talent of its star-studded squad from Europe, including Ivan Toney, Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy, and Riyad Mahrez.
Since Cristiano Ronaldo joined Al Nassr in January 2023, Saudi Arabian football has undergone a major transformation. CR7's arrival paved the way for a host of other stars to play in the country, including Karim Benzema, Neymar, N'Golo Kante, and many other prominent players such as Ruben Neves, Galeno, and Milinkovic-Savic.
The summer transfer window in Saudi Arabia will open on July 20th and run until September 10th. This will be an opportunity for Saudi Arabian clubs to strengthen their squads and compete for all titles next season.
