A highlight in Bac Ninh 's impressive series of achievements was at the 2026 National Classical and Freestyle Wrestling Club Championships. Participating with a team of 46 athletes, the Bac Ninh delegation excelled, winning a total of 38 medals (12 Gold, 12 Silver, and 14 Bronze), making a strong breakthrough by finishing second overall in both the women's freestyle and classical wrestling events.
This result further affirms Bac Ninh wrestling's leading position in the national competition system, and demonstrates its ability to compete on equal footing with the strongest wrestling centers in the country.

Not only successful at the national level, wrestlers from Bac Ninh have also made a significant mark on the international stage. A prime example is athlete Do Ngoc Linh – a young talent considered one of the most promising wrestling talents in Vietnam. In May, this female wrestler in the 50kg category consecutively won Gold Medals at the World Beach Wrestling Championships and Gold Medals at the Asian Age Group Wrestling Championships held in Da Nang .
The two gold medals at the continental and world levels are not only outstanding individual achievements but also clear evidence of the quality of wrestling training in Bac Ninh, showing that the province's athletes are fully capable of competing with strong opponents in the region and the world when properly invested in and trained.
Besides Do Ngoc Linh, the Bac Ninh wrestling team currently boasts many outstanding athletes such as Tran Thi Anh, Nguyen Thi Hang, Chu Thi Trang, Tran Manh Duong, Nguyen Trong Nam, Nguyen Van Bao, Nguyen Xuan Tung, Vu Thai Son, Tran Duy Anh, Nguyen Cong Nguyen... Generations of athletes receive continuous training, ensuring continuity between different levels, helping the team maintain stable performance and consistently rank among the top three localities nationwide.
Investing in depth, aiming for the international arena.
Currently, the wrestling department at Bac Ninh Sports Training and Competition Centers No. 1 and No. 2 has a total of over 90 athletes. These athletes are trained in three tiers: talent development, youth, and the provincial team. This model creates a closed training system, ensuring a stable and long-term source of future athletes.
At the youth level, selection processes are regularly conducted in localities with developed wrestling movements. Children with potential in physique, strength, agility, and competitive spirit are identified early on and trained according to a suitable program. After training at the youth level, outstanding athletes are further selected for the provincial team.

In recent years, training methods have been reformed towards a more in-depth and scientific approach. The coaching staff focuses on developing individual training plans tailored to each age group, weight class, and the specific characteristics of each athlete.
Mr. Trinh Van Thanh, coach at the Bac Ninh Sports Training and Competition Center No. 2, said: “In addition to improving physical fitness, we pay special attention to perfecting technical skills, training competitive psychology, and developing the ability to handle situations for athletes. Regularly participating in major tournaments helps them accumulate experience, enhance their competitive spirit, and adapt to pressure at a high level.”
In addition, the department is strengthening the application of sports science in training, from monitoring physical condition and professional evaluation to analyzing opponents. Nutrition, physical recovery, and sports medicine care are also given attention to help athletes achieve their best performance."
According to Mr. Hoang Van Nhat, coach at the Bac Ninh Sports Training and Competition Center No. 1, one of the major advantages of Bac Ninh wrestling today is its large and high-quality group of young athletes who have received thorough training. Many young athletes have quickly demonstrated their abilities at national championships, creating a quality source of human resources for the provincial and national teams.
"We are focusing on building a strong team for the long term. The goal of the sport is to continue maintaining its top position nationwide, while also having more athletes achieve high results in continental and world competitions," Mr. Nhat shared.
To create a new breakthrough, the sport continues to prioritize investment in young athletes with the potential to become national team members. The success of Do Ngoc Linh is clear evidence of the effectiveness of this direction. From these promising talents, Bac Ninh is gradually building a force of athletes capable of competing for medals in international tournaments.
2026 is considered a pivotal year for Bac Ninh Wrestling, as the 10th National Sports Games will take place at the end of the year. This is the most important arena for high-performance sports in the country, bringing together the best athletes nationwide. With the consistent performance of many key athletes, Bac Ninh Wrestling aims to win 2 to 3 gold medals. This is a completely achievable goal, as the team possesses a balanced force in both men's and women's events, with many athletes at the peak of their careers.
Besides preparing the team, the coaching staff is actively proposing a domestic training camp to help athletes focus on training before the tournament and achieve the set goals.
