Paying attention to family matters
Since 2001, the Prime Minister has decided to designate June 28th as Vietnam Family Day. Over the years, family-related issues have always received profound attention from all levels, sectors, and society as a whole.
The theme of this year's Vietnamese Family Day is "Happy Family - Prosperous Nation," further affirming the significance and role of the family home in the overall stability and development of the country.

In Bac Ninh , family affairs are identified as one of the important tasks in the strategy for cultural and human development. The province has implemented many policies and guidelines to build prosperous, progressive, equal, and happy families, in conjunction with the movement to build a cultured life at the grassroots level.
Activities promoting and educating on ethics and lifestyle within families have been innovated in both content and form, contributing to raising people's awareness of the role and responsibility of each member in maintaining family happiness.
In particular, many models of family-related activities have been implemented, such as: preventing and combating domestic violence; sustainable family development clubs; happy family building clubs; "Culturally Advanced Farmer Family" clubs; "Happy Farmer Family" clubs; "Reading Family" models, etc.
| For millennia, happiness has been humanity's greatest aspiration. Happiness can come from a job one loves, from successes in life, or from good relationships around one. But above all, the most lasting happiness begins in family – where each person is loved and supported. |
This year, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Vietnam Family Day on June 28th (2001-2026), Bac Ninh province, in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is organizing a series of diverse activities. The highlight is the nationwide celebration of the 25th anniversary of Vietnam Family Day and an exhibition of large-format posters promoting the "Vietnamese Family Value System".
In particular, the 2026 Bac Ninh Provincial Family Day will feature a variety of activities such as: the "Talented Family" competition, the "Family Meal - The Flavors of Kinh Bac" cooking competition, the "Family Reading - Bonding Through Love" competition, along with spaces for experiencing traditional culture, Quan Ho folk singing, water puppetry, and many traditional games. These activities create opportunities for families to interact, share experiences, and strengthen intergenerational bonds, thereby spreading the values of love, responsibility, and equality within each home.
Affirming the role of the family in shaping personality and building well-rounded individuals in Bac Ninh, Mr. Nguyen Van Dap, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized: The family is the cell of society, the place where personality is nurtured, morality is cultivated, and good cultural values are passed on.
In the context of modern life's many changes, building a prosperous, happy, progressive, and civilized family is the foundation for the sustainable development of our homeland and country. Preserving and nurturing family happiness is not the responsibility of each individual family or the cultural sector alone, but requires the joint efforts of the entire society.
All levels of government, sectors, and organizations need to strengthen propaganda efforts and replicate exemplary cultural family models, building a healthy and safe social environment. When each family truly becomes a loving home and a solid spiritual support for its members, the core values of the family will continue to be preserved, spread, and promoted in the new era.
Building a civilized home
For millennia, happiness has always been humanity's greatest aspiration. Happiness can come from a job one loves, from successes in life, or from good relationships around one. But above all, the most lasting happiness begins in family – where each person is loved and supported.
Family and gender equality counselors believe that no matter how society changes, the core values that make up a happy family remain enduring. These are honesty, respect, listening, sharing, and mutual trust. A family is not a place without conflict, but a place where members know how to overcome conflict together through love and understanding.
Maintaining a happy family life doesn't require grand gestures; it starts with simple everyday things like sharing meals, reading together, chatting after a long day, paying attention to each other's feelings, and dedicating time to shared activities.

Each person and each family has their own way of keeping the flame of home alive. In modern life, where smart devices can connect people to the whole world but unintentionally create distance within their own homes, putting down phones to talk, listen, and share becomes even more meaningful. 2026 marks the second year that the Bac Ninh Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has coordinated the "Family Reading - Bonding Through Love" competition. After more than two months of launching, the competition has attracted 871 entries from 40 units in 26 communes and wards across the province.
As the permanent unit of the Organizing Committee for the "Family Reading - Bonding Through Love" competition, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lien, Deputy Director of Bac Ninh Library No. 2, shared: "The message that the competition conveys is that we don't need grand things; just by opening a book together each day, we are sowing the seeds for a better future. Maintaining a regular 20-30 minutes of reading each day can create positive changes in family life, fostering dialogue and helping family members understand each other better."
Family happiness is not measured by grand material possessions, but is nurtured by simple, everyday moments. The Vietnamese have a beautiful folk verse about family affection: "The husband comes home to read and recite poetry / The wife pours the oil, the wife lights the dim lamp." This verse not only evokes the image of a harmonious, loving, and devoted husband and wife, but also shows the companionship, sharing, and mutual support among family members. This is the source of happiness and a lasting value that every generation should preserve.
