Smartphone and mobile device maker Apple has officially removed the "beta" label from the web version of Apple Maps, while adding mobile browser support on Android.
Thus, Android users can now use Apple Maps right on their phone's Chrome browser for directions and navigation.
According to analysts, the majority of Android users may still choose the default and popular map application on this operating system, Google Maps.
For iPhone smartphone users, Safari's support for Apple Maps on the web doesn't make much of a difference because Apple Maps is already built into the iOS operating system or can be easily re-downloaded from the App Store if deleted.
With the above move, both iPhone and Android users now have more choices between Google Maps and Apple Maps when looking for directions and locations.
The web version of Apple Maps has also added a "Look Around" feature - similar to Street View on Google Maps, allowing 360-degree views of some areas at eye level for passersby.
But one notable point is that Apple Maps web version does not have the full features of the original iOS app. For example, it does not support displaying 3D models of buildings or public transport maps.
Users also cannot log in to their accounts to review saved locations or personal guide collections on this web version.
Technology experts believe that Apple may continue to add more new features to Apple Maps on the web in the near future. The "bitten apple" may still be considering developing a version of Apple Maps specifically for Android./.
