It is a metaphor for a "ferryman" with the mission of guiding students across the river of knowledge to the shores of success. After each "journey" on the "river of knowledge," these young students will walk towards bright paths, forever grateful for the patience and dedication of their teacher.
The metaphor of "seed sower" refers to the seeds of knowledge and the seeds of the soul in the noble task of "nurturing people." Sometimes, this metaphor becomes imbued with the quiet, persistent effort and dedication of teachers in mountainous regions, expressed with profound meaning: "those who sow knowledge in remote areas." How many such teachers are devoting their youth to the mission of "sowing knowledge" into the innocent eyes and pure hearts of children in these highland areas?
Then there's the "candle," burning brightly to illuminate the path for students. Then there's the "guide," helping students find the right direction in their life's journey. Then there's the "firelighter," kindling the flames of inspiration, enthusiasm, and passion. And then there's the "engineer of the soul," shaping the character and values of generations of students.
More recently, with profound changes in the field of education , the teaching profession has embraced new and more innovative metaphors. These new metaphors are closer to the spirit of humanistic and egalitarian education today, but still reflect society's high expectations regarding the role and responsibilities of teachers.
As "companions," teachers not only instruct and guide students but also share and accompany them on their journey of discovering knowledge and life. As "openers," this emphasizes the teacher's role in stimulating creative thinking, rather than imposing knowledge, opening doors to knowledge and enlightening students' minds, helping them see new horizons of knowledge and life.
These metaphors, rich in humanistic values, reflect the beautiful spirit of "respecting teachers and valuing education" that Vietnamese society must consciously preserve. First and foremost, this preservation is the responsibility of the teachers themselves. The vocation of the teaching profession must be linked to a personal mission, deeply ingrained in the hearts and beliefs of each teacher regarding the value of their profession. A true teacher must view teaching as the purpose of their life, not simply as a means of livelihood.
Thanh Nien Newspaper respectfully extends its best wishes for Vietnamese Teachers' Day.
As for society, we need to fully understand the pressures teachers face, as they are placed at the center of shaping the character, knowledge, and future of individuals and society as a whole. The demands for erudition, patience, dedication, sacrifice, wisdom, enthusiasm, creativity, and exemplary conduct from teachers are all legitimate. However, we shouldn't let this diminish our understanding of the daily challenges teachers face. We shouldn't "deify" teachers, turning them into unrealistic figures. Let's focus on and sincerely contribute to supporting teachers' development and self-improvement so they can fully fulfill their noble calling.
