| Providing livelihoods for impoverished members. |
Ms. Le Thi Huyen, from Quang Phu commune, Quang Dien district, lost her husband early and is raising three children and her elderly mother-in-law alone. The burden of providing for the family weighs heavily on her shoulders, but she refuses to surrender to fate. Ms. Huyen always works diligently to support her children and be a pillar of strength for her elderly mother.
“The Women's Union has supported my livelihood, built me a sturdy chicken coop, and given me 150 chicks and feed. I know that escaping poverty requires effort. I'm fortunate to have received the 'fishing rod' – the help from the Women's Union at all levels – but I always realize that whether my livelihood is effective or not depends on myself. Therefore, I strive even harder to raise livestock, cultivate crops, and develop my family's economy ,” Ms. Huyen said.
Ms. Nguyen Truong Thi Nhan, from Phu Thuong ward (Thuan Hoa district), also faced difficulties due to having many children and an unstable job. “My family has always received care and assistance from the local government. From job placements to house construction… I am incredibly grateful. But I don't become complacent. When I found a suitable job with a stable income, I diligently went to work. My husband is the same; having a solid house, he is always happy and dedicated to his work. We are not yet wealthy, but our family's finances are more stable than before,” Ms. Nhan confided.
Thanks to the support of the Women's Union at all levels, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, from Thuy Chau ward (Huong Thuy town), has developed her straw mushroom farming business. In addition to farming, her three mushroom cultivation sheds consistently provide her with a stable income of over 10 million VND per month.
Women's associations at all levels throughout the city have carried out many diverse and practical activities to help members improve their economic situation, such as: providing interest-free loans, support with crops, livestock, fertilizers, and animal feed... The branches also build up funds and contribute capital to help members in difficult circumstances engage in small-scale trading and business, improving their family's economic situation.
To ensure that livelihood initiatives are effective and truly transform the lives of members, the associations at all levels regularly disseminate information to encourage members to change their perceptions, strive harder, and be more confident in starting businesses and developing their economy. The associations also regularly collaborate with companies and production facilities to introduce suitable jobs for members, such as: tailoring, making pressed cakes, and working in seafood processing facilities.
Ms. Ngo Thi Anh Tuyet, Permanent Vice President of the Hue City Women's Union, said: Every year, the Women's Union at all levels develops plans to review, survey, and implement activities to help women escape poverty according to multidimensional criteria. Local branches focus on poor households headed by women and vulnerable women to provide appropriate support. This ensures that the work of helping women reduce poverty and achieve sustainable economic development is effective. Thousands of livelihoods have been provided, especially with local Women's Unions promoting the establishment of cooperatives and associations in various sectors, contributing to job creation for many female members.
