Providing livelihoods for poor members

Ms. Le Thi Huyen, Quang Phu commune, Quang Dien district, lost her husband early, and had to raise 3 children and her elderly mother-in-law alone. The burden of “food, clothing, and money” weighed heavily on her shoulders, but she did not surrender to fate. Ms. Huyen always worked hard to raise her children and support her elderly mother.

“The Women's Union supported my livelihood, built me ​​a solid chicken coop, gave me 150 chickens and food. I know that to escape poverty, I have to work hard. Luckily, I received a "fishing rod" - help from the Women's Union at all levels, but I always realize that whether my livelihood is effective or not depends on me. Therefore, I try harder to raise livestock, grow crops, and develop my family's economy ," said Ms. Huyen.

Ms. Nguyen Truong Thi Nhan, Phu Thuong ward (Thuan Hoa district) also has difficulties because she has many children and an unstable job. “My family has always received attention and help from the local government. From job referrals to building a house... I am extremely grateful. But I do not rely on that. When I have a suitable job and a stable income, I work diligently. My husband is the same, having a solid house, my husband is always happy and works hard. Although not yet well-off, the family's economy is more stable than before,” Ms. Nhan confided.

Also thanks to the support of the Women's Union at all levels, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong, Thuy Chau Ward (Huong Thuy Town) has developed the profession of growing straw mushrooms. In addition to farming, Ms. Phuong's three mushroom domes always bring a stable income of over 10 million VND/month.

Women's associations at all levels throughout the city have had many diverse and practical activities to help members develop their economy, such as: supporting interest-free loans, supporting crops, seeds, fertilizers, animal feed, etc. The branches also built funds and contributed capital to help members with difficulties in trading and small businesses, improving their family economy.

In order for the means of livelihood to be effective and truly change the lives of members, the association at all levels regularly propagates to help members change their awareness, make more efforts, and be more bold in starting a business and developing the economy. The association at all levels also regularly connects with companies and production facilities to introduce suitable jobs for members such as: sewing, making pressed cakes, working in seafood processing facilities, etc.

Ms. Ngo Thi Anh Tuyet, Permanent Vice President of the Hue City Women's Union, said: Every year, all levels of the union have developed plans to review, survey, and implement activities to help women escape poverty according to multidimensional criteria. Union bases focus on poor households headed by women and disadvantaged women to have appropriate support methods. From there, the work of helping women reduce poverty and develop a sustainable economy has been effective. In particular, thousands of livelihoods have been granted, especially local Women's Unions have promoted the establishment of cooperatives and associations with various occupations, contributing to creating jobs for many female members.
