Actor Quoc Truong returns to the big screen with the role of Son in the horror film "Ut Lan: The Vengeful Spirit Guarding the Treasure". Directed by Tran Trong Dan, the film is scheduled to be released on June 20th.
"Going into hiding" while waiting for a chance to reappear.
After the release of the film "The Anonymous" in 2023, Quoc Truong did not appear on the big screen. In this return, the character he plays is a writer specializing in horror stories, who is intelligent, courageous, but mysterious.
This is a role different from Quoc Truong's usual style. Previously, he specialized in playing villainous characters—handsome but devious—which left a lasting impression on audiences.
Also wanting to unleash his creativity and present a new image and perspective to the audience, Mac Van Khoa spent two years "in hiding". He returned with the role of a quirky, unpredictable landlord hiding many secrets in the film "Ut Lan: The Vengeful Spirit Guarding the Wealth".

This is a villainous role, and the character is older than Mac Van Khoa. The actor said he wanted to challenge himself, taking on a different role than his usual one in order to bring something interesting and surprising to the audience.
Meanwhile, singer-actor Thanh Duy also attracted attention with his return to the big screen after a 7-year absence. His character, Hung, in the film "Under the Lake"—directed by Tran Huu Tan and released on June 6th—is Thanh Duy's third role after "Flapping Wings in the Air" (directed by Nguyen Hoang Diep) and "Dream Man: Deadly Friendship" (directed by Roland Nguyen). In "Under the Lake," Hung works as a makeup artist during the day and as a drag queen at a nightclub at night.
Thanh Duy revealed that since childhood he has loved watching movies and wanted to be an actor because he found acting very interesting. "Actors can live a different life of their characters, which keeps the life of an artist always colorful and fresh. The character Hung in 'Under the Lake' is taciturn, deeply introspective, and hides many wounds... This is a very interesting and challenging role for me," Thanh Duy revealed.
Expect a breakthrough.
The fact that some actors are willing to change their appearance and turn down roles that suit them demonstrates professionalism and dedication to their art. This also helps filmmakers see actors in a different light, potentially discovering hidden talents to exploit, instead of imposing familiar roles that can easily bore the audience.
If actors lack the courage to step out of their "comfort zone" and prove they can embody different characters, they cannot bring a fresh image to the big screen. This "reinvention" requires patience and effort from the actor after their comeback.
Mac Van Khoa confided: "I was born with a 'unique' face; just a slightly exaggerated expression can make people laugh. This really makes it difficult for me to portray different types of roles, especially villains, like Danh in 'Ut Lan: The Vengeful Spirit Guarding the Treasure'. Therefore, I try to act through my eyes, dialogue... to bring persuasiveness to the character."
Thanh Duy also put in no less effort for his drag queen performance in "The Bottom of the Lake". "I begged the director to let me be alone on stage, to observe and imagine. Then, I immersed myself in the role..." - Thanh Duy recalled.
