Microsoft is reportedly aiming for a release date next year for the next version of Windows, following a major internal meeting aimed at changing the company's Windows development schedule.

According to an Intel executive, 2024 will be a pretty good year for customers, especially thanks to the Windows refresh, and they still think the current platform is quite old and needs a refresh.

In addition, Windows Central has a new report claiming that the development of the next Windows “has been ramping up in the past few months.” The update is now in full development and will be completed by mid-2024.

Windows 12 operating system will be released in 2024.

The information above appears to be an unofficial confirmation that a major update to Windows will be coming next year, possibly in the form of “Windows 12.” This “refresh” term was also used during the development of Windows 11, before its official launch in June 2021.

Additionally, other sources have revealed that the next version of Windows will focus on deeper AI integration and cloud experiences designed to make Windows more efficient. A new interface is also in the works along with the improvements, and the OS won't even require a registry key to use.

Currently, Microsoft sells Windows 11 Home for $139, with many coupons and deals bringing that price down to around $20. To change the mindset of customers, Microsoft will have to offer a truly attractive price and new features.

The most likely time to release Windows 12 is next fall.
