Lammens has a strange habit before a match. |
In the world of top-level football, every player has their own "rituals" before stepping onto the pitch. For Senne Lammens, that habit is linked to his match gloves. The Belgian goalkeeper revealed that he always uses a new pair of gloves for each match.
However, Lammens' preparation didn't stop at changing gloves. He spent an entire week getting used to the pair of gloves he would use in the next match. "I use a new pair of gloves for each match. If I'm competing with a particular pair, I'll train with that pair all week until the day before the match," Lammens said.
The interesting part lies in the next step of preparation. The Manchester United goalkeeper revealed that he often soaks his gloves in a hot tub before training, believing that this helps soften the stiff latex of new gloves and improve their grip.
"My teammates couldn't believe it," Lammens said with a laugh, "But new gloves are usually quite stiff and don't have the best grip. I like to soak them in water for about half an hour." According to Lammens, this little ritual makes a noticeable difference on competition day, especially in situations requiring quick reflexes.
The Belgian goalkeeper currently uses the Real 590 Spyder model. In the Premier League, this glove model is in the mid-range segment, lower than the high-end lines from brands like Adidas, Puma, or Uhlsport, which are used by many top goalkeepers.
However, for Lammens, the most important factor isn't the value of the gloves, but the feeling of playing. The Manchester United goalkeeper believes he has found his own formula for being ready for every match.
