On the social network Weibo , the account of the rumor expert Fixed Focus Digital said that Apple is close to the trial production stage of the iPhone 17e. If the rumor is correct, this will be an upgrade of the iPhone 16e, the device introduced by Apple in February.

“The iPhone 17e production line conversion has been put on the schedule... There will still be an iPhone 17e next year, the device is close to entering the trial production stage,” the leaker said.

Based on rumors, the iPhone 17e is expected to launch in May 2026. The leakster said that the product will compete directly with mid-range smartphones from several rivals launched at the same time, especially Xiaomi, Redmi, and Vivo.

Starting at $600 , the iPhone 16e features a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, an A18 processor, and a USB-C port. Apple positions the device as a lower-cost version of the iPhone 16.

In late February, Fixed Focus Digital also revealed a “new project codename” in Apple’s supply chain, likely related to the iPhone 17e.

According to MacRumors , this is also the first person to leak information about the name iPhone 16e in December 2024. At that time, many rumors still said that the device was called iPhone SE 4.

Similarly, a report from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) says Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17e next year, but possibly in February.

“The ‘e’ series could be part of Apple’s future plans. After launching the flagship iPhone 17 series in September, we expect Apple to introduce the iPhone 17e around February next year.

This is similar to how Google launched the Pixel 'a' months after the launch of the standard Pixel flagship models,” CIRP reported in February.

For a May 2026 launch, AppleInsider said the iPhone 17e could be tested in small quantities from August this year. If it enters production earlier, the device could even be launched early next year.

In the iPhone 16e reveal post in February, CEO Tim Cook described it as “the newest member of the family,” hinting at the possibility that the device could be upgraded every year.

In fact, the launch of the affordable iPhone 'e' could help Apple refresh its flagship product line and attract more interest from users. Previously, the company only introduced new colors for some iPhone models mid-cycle.

Launching the iPhone 'e' regularly at the beginning of the year also gives users a clearer picture of when the next iPhone will appear, in contrast to the irregular launch schedule of the previous iPhone SE.

According to data from Counterpoint Research , Apple held the number one position in the global smartphone market share for the first time in the first quarter (19%). Of which, the iPhone 16e is considered a major contributor, in addition to high demand in some emerging markets.
