A new report from The Elec reveals that Apple is planning to launch the iPhone 17e in 2025 and will use OLED panels as part of an effort to keep the price lower than its cheaper predecessor, the iPhone 16e.
Specifically, the iPhone 17e will reuse some components, including the OLED screen. The report also emphasizes that the OLED screen for the iPhone 17e is the same type used on the iPhone 16e, which first appeared on the iPhone 14. According to the same source, BOE and Samsung will be the partners supplying display panels for this budget iPhone line. In addition, LG Display is also likely to participate.
The iPhone 16e was launched by Apple in mid-February. With a starting price of $600 , the device features a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, an A18 processor, and a USB-C port. Apple positions the product as a more affordable version of the iPhone 16.
According to data from Counterpoint Research , Apple held the number one position in the global smartphone market share for the first time in Q1 (19%). The iPhone 16e was a major contributing factor, alongside strong demand in several emerging markets.
In fact, launching an affordable iPhone 'e' could help Apple refresh its flagship product line and attract user attention. Previously, the company only introduced new colors for some iPhone models mid-cycle.
In a Bloomberg Power On report, analyst Mark Gurman noted that many competitors are maintaining similar strategies. Samsung launches new smartphones multiple times a year, and Google also unveils the Pixel “a” after months of releasing standard Pixel flagship models.
