Speaking to Tien Phong newspaper on May 18th, Mr. Nguyen Huu Khanh, Deputy General Director of the Central Vietnam Power Corporation, said that although it is only the beginning of summer, electricity consumption has already started to increase significantly each day.

"During the hot season, the increased use of air conditioners and cooling devices is the main reason for the sharp increase in electricity bills for many households," Mr. Khanh said.

Using cooling devices improperly can cause electricity bills to skyrocket.

The reasons stem not only from increased usage frequency but also from improper operating habits. Setting the air conditioner to a very low temperature, using multiple high-power devices simultaneously, or not ensuring the room is properly sealed forces the machine to operate continuously at high intensity, significantly increasing electricity consumption.

Based on this reality, people can completely control these costs by adjusting their usage behavior. Specifically, they should set the air conditioner temperature to 26-28°C, combine it with the use of fans to increase the efficiency of circulating cool air; limit the simultaneous use of many high-power devices during peak hours; turn off devices when not needed and prioritize using devices with energy-saving labels.

In addition, ensuring the airtightness of the room when using air conditioning, using sun-blocking curtains to limit heat radiation, regularly cleaning equipment, and monitoring daily electricity consumption are simple yet highly effective solutions for reducing electricity costs.

According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, from April to September this year, heatwaves are expected to increase in both intensity and scope nationwide. This phenomenon will appear early in April, expanding to the Northern and Central regions from the end of May. In particular, the number of hot days is predicted to be higher and more intense during July, August, and September compared to last year.

Leaders of the Central Vietnam Power Corporation further shared that the high increase in household electricity consumption is putting significant pressure on the power supply system. The unit recorded a peak power (Pmax) of 4,590 MW on May 15th, setting a new record for this year.
