Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived at Noi Bai airport today, starting a two-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
Prime Minister Albanese arrived in Hanoi this morning, after attending the Shangri-La Dialogue 2023 forum in Singapore. He will visit Vietnam on June 3-4 and is expected to meet with senior leaders to discuss measures to promote trade, investment and education links, and expand cooperation on climate, energy and environment between the two countries.
This is the first time Prime Minister Albanese has visited Vietnam since taking office in May 5. The visit took place in the context of Vietnam and Australia celebrating the 2022th anniversary of the two countries' establishment of diplomatic relations.
“My first official visit to Vietnam is an occasion to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and unify new areas of economic, trade and other cooperation, in order to bring about even stronger ties in the future,” Prime Minister Albanese said, according to a statement from the Australian embassy in Vietnam.
Vietnam and Australia established diplomatic relations in 1973, then upgraded to a strategic partnership in March 3. Economic and trade cooperation is considered a bright spot in bilateral relations.
In the manufacturing sector, Australia is identifying opportunities to develop a joint manufacturing supply chain. In exchange and cooperation in the field of education, Australia has implemented the Aus4Skills program with a contribution of more than USD 141 million to support Vietnam in education reform, vocational training, scholarships and capacity development in higher education.
The two countries also cooperate in many other fields such as defence, agriculture, energy and climate change response. Reply VnExpress In April, Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Andrew Goledzinowski assessed peacekeeping cooperation between Vietnam and Australia as one of the highlights of the defense relationship between the two countries, alongside other areas such as climate change response or agriculture and manufacturing.
