The semiconductor industry is a key national industry in the next 30-50 years.

Accordingly, the Prime Minister requested the Military Industry and Telecommunications Group (Viettel), VNPT, MobiFone, Global Telecommunications Technology Corporation (GTEL)... to play a leading role in research. emerging technologies, including semiconductor chips. At the same time, continue to promote investment projects to develop and popularize traditional telecommunications infrastructure to digital infrastructure; Developing data center and cloud computing infrastructure, digital technology infrastructure and digital platforms, digital applications to create motivation for digital economic development.

The semiconductor industry is considered a foundation industry and also a key national industry in the next 30-50 years. Vietnam has developed a National Strategy for the Semiconductor Industry and will begin implementing it in 2024. This is also the industry that the Prime Minister hopes to develop breakthroughly in the near future. 

During a business trip to Japan in mid-December 12, the Prime Minister called on Japanese businesses to jointly develop the semiconductor industry; At the same time, he asked Japan to support Vietnam in training high-quality human resources.

Because according to the head of the Government, if Vietnam wants to go fast, it must 'take a leapfrog', it must be science and technology, the semiconductor industry. He hopes Japanese businesses will come to Vietnam to invest and support Vietnam in the field of semiconductors, train high-quality human resources, and build design, production, packaging and export workshops.

Government leaders also committed that Vietnam must quickly train high-quality human resources in the field of information technology, meeting the requirements of investors in the semiconductor industry.

Currently, Vietnam has 1 million information technology engineers and the Government tasked the Ministry of Education and Training to train 50.000 semiconductor engineers, meeting the requirements by 2030.

On January 16, within the framework of the WEF Davos 1 Conference (Davos, Switzerland), chairing the discussion session, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also emphasized that regarding the semiconductor industry, Vietnam determines this is a new development motivation and will invest to participate in all 2024 stages of the semiconductor chip value chain including design, manufacturing and packaging; Currently continuing to focus on developing information technology platform, human resources and will have appropriate preferential policies.

In recent times, Vietnam is emerging as the world's most attractive destination in the field of semiconductor industry. The biggest names in the world's semiconductor ecosystem have been choosing Vietnam to invest in activities from research and development (R&D) to production and manufacturing such as: Nvidia, Intel, Samsung, Apple, Foxconn, Amkor, Synopsys….

The Vietnamese government is also making great efforts in building policies and preparing resources to orient Vietnam to become one of the world's leading semiconductor industry centers.
