The US announced that Sweden officially became a member of NATO on March 7th.
During his visit to the United States, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson handed over the final documents to the US government on March 7, completing the last step in the process of securing the support of all NATO members if he wishes to join the military alliance.
"Good things come to those who wait," Reuters quoted U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken as saying when receiving the documents from Prime Minister Kristersson.
"This is a historic moment for Sweden, for our alliance, and for transatlantic relations," Blinken said.
For NATO, the admission of Sweden and Finland marks the most significant expansion in decades.
And Prime Minister Kristersson also called March 7 a historic day, when Sweden officially joined NATO.
The inclusion of this Nordic nation promises to add a significant number of advanced submarines and Gripen fighter jets to NATO's fleet, while also making it a crucial link between the Atlantic and the Baltic region.

This development is expected to provoke a response from Russia. Earlier, Moscow warned it would use " political and military-technical" measures to retaliate against Sweden's actions.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg reassured Sweden that the country is now under the protection of the military alliance.
