Tien Linh did not attend the V-League Awards despite winning an award.

Binh Duong FC striker Nguyen Tien Linh cited a busy schedule with the V-League Awards 2025 organizers, despite being named in the team of the season.

On the afternoon of July 1st, the V-League Awards 2025 will take place in Hanoi . The Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF) will present individual awards and team titles to players, coaches, and clubs that participated in the recent Vietnamese professional football season.

Some individuals were unable to attend the event due to work commitments. For example, Coach Vu Hong Viet of Nam Dinh Steel Green Club - the team defending their V-League championship title - was in Japan for training.

In addition, striker Nguyen Tien Linh has requested to be absent due to other commitments. The organizers contacted Tien Linh, but he was unable to arrange his schedule to travel to Hanoi to receive the award.

VPF announced that Tien Linh is included in the Team of the Season for 2024-2025. This is a recognition of the Becamex Binh Duong player's efforts in scoring 13 goals this season.

Unfortunately for Tien Linh, he had one goal deducted (from 14 down to 13) just days before the V-League Awards. If he had kept his 14 goals, the striker born in 1997 would have been a joint top scorer.

Tien Linh had a goal against Hai Phong FC in round 25 at Lach Tray Stadium deducted from his tally. Initially, the organizers counted Tien Linh as having scored two goals in that match, but recently it was counted as an own goal.

Upon hearing this news, the Vietnamese national team striker couldn't help but feel disappointed. He expressed his feelings on his personal page: "Really sad." Many people comforted him, saying that Tiến Linh is still the "top domestic scorer."

However, the title "top domestic scorer" is merely a designation, referring only to the Vietnamese player who scores the most goals in the V-League, and not the "top scorer" regardless of nationality.

If VPF hadn't disallowed Tien Linh's 14th goal, he would have tied the record with foreign strikers Alan Sebastiao (Hanoi Police FC) and Lucas Vinicius (Hai Phong FC).

Tien Linh's best performance was scoring 15 goals in the 2018 season. He still trails his senior teammate Nguyen Anh Duc in the 2017 season, when Anh Duc scored 17 goals and won the "top scorer" title.
