"The sound of drums signaling study time" in Tho Lap

For many years, the "Study Drum" has become a familiar sound to students and residents in Tho Lap commune. This model not only helps students develop the habit of studying on time, but through the cooperation between the school, family, and society, it has created a widespread movement to build a learning society throughout the commune.

Youth union members in Tho Lap commune check on students' homework in the evening.

Every day at 7 PM – when the "study bell" rings – all the students in the commune voluntarily sit down at their desks, take out their books and notebooks, and begin studying.

Trinh Mai Anh, a student at Tho Lap Secondary School, said: "Thanks to the 'Study Time Drum,' I've developed the habit of studying on time. Not only that, during my evening study sessions, teachers, members of the local education promotion association, youth union members, and parents come to my house to monitor, check, and guide me with my homework and encourage my studies. As a result, my academic performance has improved significantly."

The "Study Drum" model was created with the desire to foster self-discipline in each student's studies. In particular, it aims to create a habit of self-study at home in the evenings. Therefore, the movement has gradually attracted the attention of students and a large number of parents in the commune.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, a resident of Tho Lap commune, said: "Our family is always busy with work from morning until late at night, often neglecting our children's studies. Thanks to the 'Study Drum,' at 7 PM, without needing reminders from their parents, my children voluntarily sit down to study and prepare their books for school the next day. When they hear the 'Study Drum,' many people in the commune also reduce activities such as meetings and noisy entertainment so that their children and grandchildren can concentrate on studying."

Operating since 2015, the "Drumbeat for Studying" model in Tho Lap commune has increasingly spread throughout the villages, attracting the participation of numerous teachers, local socio -political organizations such as the Education Promotion Association, the Youth Union, the Women's Union, and the support of parents. The model also contributes to cultivating good study habits and self-discipline among students, creating a healthy learning environment, fostering lifelong learning habits, and contributing to improving the quality of education and promoting the education and talent development movement in the locality.

Sharing about the activities of the "Drumbeat for Studying" model, the Secretary of the Thọ Lập Commune Youth Union, Nguyễn Thị Thu Huyền, said: "In implementing the 'Drumbeat for Studying' model, the commune's youth union always sends members to coordinate with political and social organizations to inspect, encourage, and remind students to study on time and to mobilize people to reduce or turn off sound equipment if there is excessive sound usage or large gatherings causing noise and disorder. At the same time, we promote the purpose and meaning of the movement, and encourage officials, members, and parents to pay attention to and supervise their children's studies. In addition to checking students' study habits, the inspection team also meets and talks with parents, advising on methods of checking their children's studies at home and arranging family time so that students study on time. Along with implementing this model, the commune's youth union also actively supports the study expenses of "Children sponsored by the Youth Union," and gives gifts to them every year." "Approximately over 100 underprivileged students in the commune received gifts on the occasion of the beginning of the school year and the Mid-Autumn Festival."

After many years of operation, the "Study Drum" model has become very familiar every evening, closely linked to the daily lives of people in the villages of Tho Lap commune. Deputy Secretary of the Tho Lap Commune Party Committee, Le Van Luc, affirmed: "The 'Study Drum' not only helps students develop self-discipline, but also strengthens the bond between families, schools, and society in monitoring their children's studies. To ensure the model's effectiveness, the commune will continue to assign the commune's education promotion association to coordinate with schools and socio-political organizations in the commune to regularly monitor and conduct periodic or surprise inspections to improve students' learning awareness in the villages. During the inspection process, members of the inspection team will meet and exchange information with parents and students to understand their thoughts and aspirations, and find ways to resolve any difficulties or obstacles." The commune will also actively commend and reward students with good academic achievements and underprivileged but studious students. This will encourage them to strive for excellence in their studies, contributing to improving the quality of education in the locality."
