Over the past period, the Farmers' Associations at all levels in the province have effectively played their role in supporting and mobilizing members and farmers to unite, be dynamic and creative in labor and production with new models that bring high economic efficiency.
The Provincial Farmers' Association visited the grape cultivation model of Mr. Ha Thinh Hung's family in Hamlet 12, Nga An Commune (Nga Son District).
The farm of Mr. Ha Thinh Hung's family in Nga An commune (Nga Son district) is built on a circular, zero-waste agricultural model. With hundreds of pigs, the farm releases tens of tons of waste into the environment each year. To safely and hygienically handle this waste, Mr. Hung's family has built a biogas system. All waste is transferred to the biogas tank for fermentation, then pumped into settling ponds, mixed with biological agents, and further fermented to become organic fertilizer. With the support of local authorities and a subsidy of 70 million VND per 1,000m², his family has invested in building 4,000m² of greenhouses for growing yellow melons. Currently, the family is producing yellow melons using a high-tech crop rotation system with three crops per year. The entire greenhouse area is equipped with a drip irrigation system, controlled automatically via smartphone. Thanks to proper technical care, each melon crop yields 3 tons of marketable melons per 1,000 square meters. With an area of 4,000 square meters, the annual yield is nearly 50 tons, resulting in a profit of nearly 200 million VND after deducting expenses. In addition to growing yellow melons, the family has invested in a trial planting of 500 square meters of milk grapes, which are growing and developing well.
Leading us on a tour of the Luc Truc bamboo garden, Ms. Dinh Thi Le from Minh Thai village, Minh Son commune (Ngoc Lac district) said: “It was quite by chance that I learned about the model of growing Luc Truc bamboo for shoots in Bac Giang province while reading the newspaper. Through trips to learn about bamboo cultivation in many places, I carefully recorded the processes of selecting seeds, planting, caring for, harvesting shoots, and propagation. After more than a year of planting and caring for the bamboo, Luc Truc bamboo has not disappointed me, meeting my initial expectations; the plants have grown well, the shoots are delicious, suitable for the local soil and climate conditions, and bring high economic value. I took the initiative to establish the Luc Truc Bamboo Shoot Cooperative with 10 members. The members are united, regularly exchanging and sharing experiences, supporting each other with capital, planting and caring techniques, and expanding the area of Luc Truc bamboo cultivation in the locality, which has now increased to over 30 hectares.”
It is known that the economic development models of Mr. Ha Thinh Hung, Nga An commune (Nga Son district) and Ms. Dinh Thi Le, Minh Thai village, Minh Son commune (Ngoc Lac district) are two of many models that have received support from the Provincial Farmers' Association in terms of both capital and technology. To create conditions for farmers to have more resources to promote their role as key players, the Provincial Farmers' Association has signed 40 cooperation programs with departments, agencies, and businesses; and developed the project "Thanh Hoa Farmers' Association with the program to bring businesses to agriculture and rural areas" for the period 2020-2025. Associations at all levels in the province have focused on promoting activities to support farmers with capital, knowledge, technology transfer, vocational training, and product consumption connections. At the same time, associations at all levels have strengthened credit guarantees and acted as intermediaries with banks to provide loans to farmers for production and business development, with a total outstanding loan balance of over 16 trillion VND, benefiting 169,811 households. The provincial Farmers' Support Fund has reached 38.6 billion VND, currently providing loans to 616 households through 78 projects; training in the transfer of scientific and technical advancements has been provided to 220,392 people; and guidance has been provided on building over 70 high-tech and high-tech agricultural production models, linked to the development of value chains.
In addition, the Provincial Farmers' Association has integrated various programs and projects, building many green agricultural production models that apply high technology, are efficient, and sustainable; and supporting the assessment and certification of Good Animal Husbandry Practices (VietGAHP) for products. It has directly encouraged registration and guided the development of new OCOP products. Ten training courses were organized to guide 879 cadres and members of outstanding production and business households in registering and completing application dossiers for OCOP product recognition. It has also directly encouraged, advised, and guided the establishment of 226 new cooperative groups, 14 cooperatives, and 74 enterprises.
Mr. Tran Binh Quan, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, stated: "During its operation, the Farmers' Associations at all levels in the province have affirmed their important role in rural economic development, effectively organizing and implementing the movement of farmers competing in excellent production and business. From this movement, more and more exemplary individuals and new models in rural agriculture have emerged, along with innovative initiatives and creative, dynamic methods, enabling farmers to overcome difficulties and rise to legitimate wealth. Farmers' lives have become stable, and the face of rural areas is increasingly improving."
To continue accompanying farmers on their path to prosperity, the Provincial Farmers' Association continues to promote the leading and central role of farmers in agricultural development, rural economy, and new rural construction. The Association encourages its members and farmers to actively compete in production and business, linking and cooperating in production along the value chain to increase added value and ensure food safety and quality. At the same time, it encourages and mobilizes farmers to compete in excellent production and business; farmers play a core role in agricultural and rural development, fostering community cohesion, actively participating in and guiding other farming households to develop production and business, increase income, escape poverty, and achieve legitimate wealth, especially those in remote areas and ethnic minority regions.
The various levels of the association will continue to support and guide members and farmers in developing diverse household and farm economic models suitable to their level and needs; and promote support for members and farmers in developing cooperative and linkage models with businesses, cooperatives, and individual farmers to produce and trade along the value chain.
