Amidst the general atmosphere of excitement, there is a small but significant change: the bouquets of flowers, once a familiar sight at award ceremonies, are becoming less common.
Instead, they are simple, unpretentious certificates of merit, but the joy and pride of the person being recognized remain unchanged.
This change does not diminish appreciation; on the contrary, it demonstrates a new approach to practicing thrift and combating waste, starting with very specific and familiar things in public service.
That spirit stems from the sense of responsibility and exemplary conduct of the city's officials and Party members.
At the recent conference summarizing Party building work in 2025 and implementing the work program for 2026 of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City's Party agencies, the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, Le Quoc Phong, emphasized: attention must be paid to combating waste and practicing thrift within the ranks of cadres and Party members, in order to allocate resources for the overall development of the city.
This policy has been and is being concretized through many practical actions. For example, during the Party Congresses of communes, wards, special zones, and the Party Congresses at the immediate higher level, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee requested that localities and units not accept congratulatory flowers for the congresses.
At the Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress for the 2025-2030 term, decorative flowers were not used. On many other major holidays and festivals, agencies and units also proactively limited the giving and receiving of flowers, used filtered water in shared containers, and carefully managed every expense to organize social welfare activities.
Recently, the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee made a very humane decision by not organizing the annual vacation program, instead donating the entire budget of over 300 million VND to support people affected by storms and floods.
These seemingly small actions, when implemented collectively, create great value. Understanding and sharing the difficulties of the people has given each official and Party member more motivation to save even the smallest things.
