- Every Lunar New Year, localities throughout the province solemnly organize ceremonies to celebrate the longevity of the elderly. This activity demonstrates the concern of the Party committee, government, and community for the elderly, spreading humanitarian values and strengthening solidarity within families and communities.
Among the elderly people whose birthdays were celebrated by the Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tam Thanh Ward in early March 2026 was Mrs. Do Thi Hien (85 years old), from Hoang Thuong Hamlet, Tam Thanh Ward. She was awarded the Third Class Resistance Medal for her contributions to the war against America. Despite her advanced age, Mrs. Hien remains mentally sharp and a shining example for her children and grandchildren. Sharing her thoughts at the ceremony, Mrs. Hien said: "I am very happy and moved to have the local government organize such a solemn birthday celebration for me. With the care and attention of my family and society, I feel warm and have more motivation to continue living happily and healthily, setting a good example for my children and grandchildren."

Ms. Hien is just one of many elderly people in the province who received birthday celebrations and longevity ceremonies at the beginning of the spring season. Mr. Nong Ngoc Tang, Chairman of the Provincial Association of Elderly People, said: "In recent years, the organization of birthday celebrations for the elderly has always been carefully and respectfully implemented by local authorities and associations at all levels. This is a meaningful activity that demonstrates the concern of the Party and the State, while also honoring the tradition of 'respecting the elderly and achieving longevity' and filial piety in the community."
Accordingly, to ensure that the birthday celebrations are well-organized, the Elderly Associations at all levels and local authorities have proactively promoted awareness of the significance of the event, while also conducting a thorough review and accurate statistical analysis of the number of elderly people reaching the age for birthday celebrations. Based on this, the Elderly Associations coordinate with the government and other organizations to prepare programs, gifts, and organize ceremonies that are appropriate to the actual conditions, ensuring solemnity and warmth.
In 2026, the entire province will have 26 centenarians who will receive gifts from the President ; 520 centenarians will receive congratulations and birthday wishes at the provincial level. In addition, thousands of elderly people aged 70, 75, 80, and 85 will receive congratulations and birthday wishes from the commune-level People's Committees. These are all elderly members who have made positive contributions to their localities, and they always serve as shining examples for the people and their families to learn from and emulate. |
In particular, longevity celebrations are not limited to the ritual of exchanging greeting cards and certificates; in many places, preparations begin weeks in advance, including fundraising, organizing welcoming cultural performances, and giving gifts. More importantly, the value of a longevity celebration lies not in the material gifts but in the care and respect shown to the elderly. The moment the elderly step onto the stage amidst the applause and congratulations of their children, grandchildren, and relatives is a precious expression of gratitude, affirming the position of the elderly in social life. Through this, it contributes to educating the younger generation to cherish and continue the national tradition of "drinking water, remembering the source," and respecting elders.
Besides the birthday celebrations held in the residential area, many families also celebrate the birthdays of their grandparents and parents in a warm atmosphere at home. After the communal ceremony, children and grandchildren gather around the New Year's meal, offer tea, and send best wishes to their elders.
As the daughter-in-law of Mrs. Hoang Thi Dam, from Lang Cang 2 village, Van Linh commune, Mrs. Hoang Thi Thoat happily shared: "This year, Mrs. Dam turns 100 years old. Our family is very happy and proud that the delegation from the provincial leadership came to visit and wish her a long life. This is not only a joy for her but also a happiness for her children and grandchildren to see her living happily and healthily, and always receiving the care and respect of society. This also reminds the generations in the family to continue to care for, support, and serve our grandparents and parents, preserving the tradition of filial piety in each family."
It can be seen that the spring longevity celebration is not only an occasion to honor and express gratitude for the contributions of the elderly, but also a time for children and grandchildren to gather, reunite, and show affection and respect for the merits of their parents and grandparents, contributing to strengthening the movement to build cultured families and cultured residential areas.
