A new survey by Adobe Express, conducted in conjunction with brand engagement company Fractl, examined what makes searching on TikTok different, and what users typically search for on the platform.
Adobe Express surveyed 808 people living in the US (25% Gen Z, 31% Millennials, 26% Gen X, and 18% Baby Boomers) about what attracted them to the short video app TikTok, as well as the types of content they search for on it.

The results show that respondents often use TikTok as a search tool to find new recipes (36%), new music (35%), DIY tips (34%), fashion advice (30%), workout routines (29%), beauty tips (29%), new products & services (25%), recommended movies (24%), design inspiration (23%), etc.
So why are these consumers turning to TikTok, instead of traditional search engines like Google, for product recommendations or design inspiration? According to an Adobe Express survey, the most common reason is simply that "TikTok's short video format is more informative and easier to understand." Other respondents said they liked TikTok's "storytelling aspect," found its content "more personalized," and believed that the information on TikTok is "more relevant."
Here are the top 10 reasons why survey respondents chose to use TikTok instead of traditional search engines:
1. TikTok's short video format is more informative and easier to understand.

3. TikTok video content is more personalized.
