Analyst Jeff Pu from GF Securities has just stated that the iPhone 17 will not be equipped with a new generation chip but will still use the A18 chip, the same one in the iPhone 16. The chip may be manufactured using TSMC's second-generation 3nm process.

Meanwhile, the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air – expected to replace the Plus version – will be equipped with the A19 chip, while the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will feature the A19 Pro chip. All are manufactured using TSMC's third-generation 3nm process.
Additionally, Pu revealed that the standard iPhone 17 might only have 8GB of RAM, just like the iPhone 16.
Last month, analyst Ming Chi Kuo also stated that the iPhone 17 Air and iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max models would use 12GB of RAM to meet the requirements for running Apple Intelligence. He also mentioned that Apple has not yet decided whether to use 8GB or 12GB of RAM for the standard iPhone 17.
If Pu's report turns out to be true, the iPhone 17 will be an upgrade, but not a significant one, compared to the iPhone 16, retaining both the design and the chip. However, recent rumors suggest the device will feature a larger 6.3-inch screen, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a front camera upgraded from 12MP to 24MP.
Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 17 generation in September of this year.
