Importantly, in some sports such as swimming and athletics, Vietnamese athletes have clearly demonstrated their dominance in several strong events across multiple SEA Games.
The aforementioned achievements are thanks to the consistent emergence of young talents, who are capable of following in the footsteps and even surpassing the previous generation. At the 33rd SEA Games, swimming witnessed the affirmation of many female athletes such as Kha Nhi, My Tien, and especially Thuy Hien - only 16 years old but participating in the SEA Games for the second consecutive time. In the men's events, while "frog prince" Pham Thanh Bao, along with Nguyen Huy Hoang and Tran Hung Nguyen, still maintain their dominance in their specialty distances in the SEA Games swimming competition, promising young faces have emerged, ready to take their place. These are Tran Van Nguyen Quoc (17 years old), Nguyen Quang Thuan (19 years old), and Duong Van Hoang Quy (19 years old), two of whom had previously surpassed their seniors at the 33rd SEA Games. Watching Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, Vo Thi My Tien, Nguyen Quang Thuan... compete at the 33rd SEA Games, there is a clear belief that these young athletes are capable of playing a leading role in the Vietnamese swimming team at the 34th SEA Games in Malaysia in two years' time.
Similar to swimming, Vietnamese athletics introduced several promising young talents at the 33rd SEA Games. These include Ta Ngoc Tuong (men's 400m), Le Thi Cam Tu (women's 200m), Bui Thi Kim Anh (women's high jump)... A new face making her SEA Games debut in the women's 4x400m relay team, Le Thi Tuyet Mai, deserves more attention because this girl from Nghe An has proven herself to be an excellent replacement for her senior teammate Nguyen Thi Huyen (who recently retired from competition), ensuring that the Vietnamese women's 4x400m relay team continues to pursue its dream of winning a valuable medal at a larger competition than the SEA Games.
At the Suphachalasai Stadium (Bangkok, Thailand), Tuyet Mai was placed in the third heat (after Nguyen Thi Hang and Hoang Thi Minh Hanh), and it was this 21-year-old girl from the Tho ethnic group who sprinted like the wind to widen the gap with the Thai athlete, creating a huge advantage for Nguyen Thi Ngoc to finish and win the gold medal in the women's 4x400m relay.
