“No country, no intelligence agency in the world can attribute this (the Nord Stream sabotages) to anyone in particular,” Mr. Kahl said. But this will change, there are some notable successes in investigations.”
The BND director noted that the site of the sabotage was on the seabed, making the job of investigators much more difficult.
The investigations are being conducted "in different directions," Kahl said.
On May 21, the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung German news agency reported that at least two Ukrainians were involved in the sabotage of the Nord Stream 2 and 1 pipelines.
European publications also reported that investigators were looking at scenarios of what happened, in which the data showed a "Ukrainian trace".
However, the German Federal Prosecutor's Office did not respond to requests for comment.
On the Russian side, on May 12, Deputy Chairman of the Russian National Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated that Moscow will continue to use all available legal tools to make those behind the series of gas pipeline explosions. The North Stream is responsible.
However, he also noted that the possibility of bringing these subjects to international courts is very small.
