Despite unfavorable weather conditions and objective market challenges, TKV (Vietnam Coal and Mineral Group) still recorded positive business results in the first quarter of 2025. Total revenue for the entire Group is estimated at VND 44,340 billion, equivalent to 25.7% of the annual plan and a 13% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of this, revenue from coal production reached VND 27,270 billion, mineral production VND 7,800 billion, and electricity production VND 3,660 billion. Notably, coal consumption reached 12.71 million tons (equivalent to 25.4% of the annual plan), including 10.8 million tons for electricity generation, ensuring stable supply to thermal power plants and contributing to maintaining national energy security during the dry season. Raw coal production reached 10.5 million tons, equivalent to 27.6% of the annual plan, higher than the same period last year thanks to the timely implementation of solutions to boost mining at various mines.
Contributing to this overall result was the vibrant and widespread emulation spirit at all units within TKV from the very beginning of the year. Responding to the call of the Group's leadership, the units launched many practical emulation movements, linked to the action slogan "Safety - Discipline - Innovation - Efficiency". This slogan has become a guiding principle throughout all production activities, creating motivation for the units to excellently fulfill their assigned tasks.
Many units within the Group quickly transformed the spirit of emulation into concrete actions and tangible results. At Ha Tu Coal Joint Stock Company, thanks to favorable weather conditions, the unit boosted production from the beginning of April, creating momentum to complete the Q2 plan. In Q1, the unit achieved many impressive targets, such as: excavating 13.863 million m³ of earth and rock (reaching 31.5% of the annual plan), processing 2.1 million m³ of mine sludge (reaching 100% of the annual plan), mining 620,000 tons of raw coal (reaching 24.8% of the annual plan), and selling 665,600 tons (reaching 25.6% of the annual plan). Notably, the mine sludge treatment plan was completed on March 13th, creating conditions for efficient mining in the mine bottom area.
On April 7th (the 10th day of the 3rd lunar month, Hung Kings' Commemoration Day), the company maintained stable production, achieving noteworthy results. Currently, the unit is mobilizing maximum equipment and personnel, focusing intensely on the goal of completing at least 54% of the raw coal production target in the first six months of the year. Simultaneously, safety, environmental protection, storm response, and ensuring the progress of projects before April 20th are also being actively implemented.
Not only Ha Tu, but many units within TKV (Vietnam Coal Corporation) also recorded a vibrant emulation movement. Quang Hanh Coal Company is also urgently deploying tunnel excavation and equipment installation to ensure the first coal extraction from the -175/-300 level is on schedule by April 1, 2025. Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company and Uong Bi Coal Company have boldly applied modern technology such as the EBH-45 combine harvester and flexible support systems - solutions that contribute to increasing productivity and reducing manual labor, gradually modernizing coal mining.
A highlight of production management in the first quarter was the proactive, decisive, and flexible leadership of the Group's management. From the beginning of the year, TKV issued production management plans in accordance with Resolution 25/NQ-CP, requiring units to increase raw coal mining and accelerate the progress of projects such as bringing mining machines into the mine face and deploying open-pit mining areas…
The construction of items serving the rainy season, such as drainage tunnel No. 2 and pit lowering, to ensure continuous and safe mining operations was also closely supervised. Environmental protection, spring tree planting, and waste and wastewater treatment were regularly maintained with positive results: 23.5 million m³ of wastewater treated, 34 hectares of new trees planted, and labor safety ensured during holidays.
Building on the momentum of the year's emulation campaign, TKV (Vietnam Coal and Mineral Group) has decisively directed its units to implement production plans for the rainy season, intensify tunnel excavation, blend clean coal from rock and soil, and invest in modern equipment to improve productivity, quality, and economic efficiency. At the same time, it has actively coordinated with localities, ministries, and sectors to resolve licensing procedures and remove obstacles in investment – a key step in ensuring the progress of key projects.
Entering the second quarter of 2025, TKV aims to achieve a coal consumption output of 15.8 million tons (equivalent to 28.7% of the annual plan), bringing the total consumption for the first six months to approximately 28.5 million tons (reaching 57% of the plan). Clean coal production in the second quarter is expected to reach 10.7 million tons, equivalent to 28.5% of the annual plan.
Amidst difficulties in the coal export market, falling mineral prices, and the lack of a clear recovery in domestic consumption, TKV (Vietnam Coal Corporation) has implemented a series of flexible management solutions, focusing on several key areas. Regarding coal production and consumption, the Corporation has directed its units to finalize and effectively implement the rainy season mining plan; strengthen the processing of clean coal from non-standard products; accelerate the licensing of mines and investment in equipment to maintain production; and ensure sufficient coal supply for electricity production, especially during the peak months of the dry season.
With a spirit of enthusiastic competition, high determination, and close support from the Group's leadership, the coal industry units are striving every day to complete and exceed the production and business targets for 2025.
