Traditionally, on the 10th day of the 7th lunar month each year, the people of Nam Dieu neighborhood (Thanh Ha ward) solemnly organize a ceremony to commemorate the founders of the pottery craft, in order to remember and express gratitude for the merits of their ancestors who contributed to the founding of the village, establishing the craft, and creating the traditional pottery of Nam Dieu, Thanh Ha.
Thanh Ha pottery village was formed around the 16th-17th centuries by a number of craftsmen from Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces who came to live and work, built a village, and established the pottery craft in the strip of land near the lower reaches of the Thu Bon River, now the Nam Dieu neighborhood.
Historically, Thanh Ha pottery has primarily focused on producing bricks and tiles for the construction of ancient architectural structures in Hoi An, as well as pottery for daily life and religious purposes. The majority of the village's products are sold in Quang Nam, Quang Tri , Quang Binh, and other regions.
With their talent and finesse, the artisans of Nam Dieu Thanh Ha pottery village created pottery products that were recorded by the Nguyen dynasty in the book Dai Nam Nhat Thong Chi (part of Quang Nam's local products).
The Nam Dieu pottery village's ancestral shrine was built in the first half of the 19th century to serve the cultural, spiritual, and religious life of the residents of Nam Dieu pottery village in Thanh Ha. Despite enduring historical upheavals and the harshness of nature, the Nam Dieu ancestral shrine remains intact, embodying the invaluable tangible historical and cultural heritage of generations of pottery artisans.

Commemorating the founders of pottery making is a beautiful cultural tradition for everyone.
The people of Nam Dieu neighborhood, deeply rooted in Vietnamese national cultural identity, traditional craft culture, and village culture, have the opportunity to remember their origins and express gratitude for the contributions of their ancestors.
The festival also serves as an opportunity to promote the image of a traditional craft village rich in cultural heritage to domestic and international tourists. For over 20 years, Thanh Ha pottery village has become a favorite destination for tourists from all over; in 2023 alone, the total number of visitors who purchased tickets to visit Thanh Ha pottery village reached over 550,000 (generating revenue of over 19.2 billion VND).
This year's Thanh Ha pottery festival, in addition to the ceremonial offerings and lion dance parade through the village streets, also featured recreational activities such as pottery-making competitions, pottery product displays, folk games, and traditional boat races, attracting a large number of locals and tourists to cheer on the participants.
