Seeing the children's faces lit up with pride, proudly running to hug their father's neck and not forgetting to brag to their friends: "Today and many days after, my dad will pick me up!" made him extremely emotional.
Receiving us at the rented house near the unit, Ms. Tran Thi Le Thuy, Mr. Ly's wife, said that they were deskmates during their high school years, so they had many memories together. After graduating from high school, he was admitted to the Army Officer School 2, and she was admitted to the Vietnam-Korea Friendship Information Technology College. Their friendship continued to be bridged by handwritten letters.

In 2015, after graduating and stabilizing their jobs, the two got married. The young couple's life was full of hardships and difficulties. When Nguyen Tran Vy Chuc's daughter was born, the financial burden became even heavier on the small family. To support her husband financially, she and her children asked to move back to her parents' house so that her grandparents could take care of the child and she could find a job.
Recalling the April 30 holiday a few years ago, the mother and child planned to visit him at the unit. However, before leaving, the child had a high fever. Taking the child to Children's Hospital 2 for examination, the doctor could not find the cause but concluded that the child had acute malnutrition and rickets (the child was 3 years old but weighed less than 8kg). With the support of the unit's leaders and commanders, he asked for leave to go to the hospital with his child. However, when she saw her father, Vy Chuc burst into tears because... it was strange, and refused to follow.
In 2020, she gave birth to Nguyen Tran Truc Quynh, taking care of two children and taking care of the family affairs by herself, so she discussed with her husband about quitting their current job to become a freelancer. Recalling the past months, Ms. Thuy said softly: Since we got married 10 years ago, husband, wife and children are hundreds of kilometers apart. Meanwhile, he often goes to school and works away from home. Therefore, the story of being taken to school by their father for Nguyen Tran Vy Chuc and her sisters is probably just a dream.
Feeling sorry for his children and wife who have suffered many hardships, Mr. Ly recently discussed with his wife to move the three of them to live near the unit so that they can have more time for the family. Now, their life is still full of hardships and difficulties, but every time the whole family gathers around the dinner table and sees the bright smiles on the children's faces, Mr. Ly and Ms. Thuy feel warm in their hearts.
