In Da Nang, balconies in buildings onthe FPT University campus are ablaze with shades of pink, orange, red, and white as four-year-old bougainvillea bushes bloom.

Amidst the lush greenery of the campus, the five-story white buildings stand out, their balconies reaching out and covered in colorful bougainvillea. In early summer, when the flowers are in full bloom, it becomes a favorite photo spot for students and young people from outside the school.

According to Ms. Truong Thi Ngoc Thach, head of the administrative department, the buildings on campus with bougainvillea balconies and lush greenery originated from an idea by Dr. Le Truong Tung, President of FPT University, to plant trees in a forest-like style, applying the formula of 200 shade trees per hectare. The purpose of this is to green the entire campus, bringing vitality to faculty, staff, and students.

Bougainvillea was planted right after the Gama and Beta main campuses were completed in 2019. As someone who loves plants, Ms. Thach was enthusiastic about learning about this area when she was assigned to it. "Together with the administrative staff, I searched for documents and learned about planting models and soil improvement from greening experts and colleagues across the country," Ms. Thach recounted.

She explained that she chose to cover the balconies of the two buildings with bougainvillea because it is a sun-loving, drought-tolerant plant, suitable for the sunny and windy climate of Central Vietnam. Each building has about 160 planters, with 240 plants.

The care of the bougainvillea bushes and other greenery on the school grounds is currently handled by a dedicated unit. The bougainvillea is watered twice a week; fertilized with NPK, cow manure, and duckweed from the pond, both during and after bud formation, to prolong the flowering period. For the past two years, the potted plants have started to produce abundant blooms. They bloom year-round but are most vibrant in late spring and early summer. During the rainy season in October and November, there are fewer flowers, mostly leaves and branches.

The campus is now covered in greenery, with nearly two-thirds of the area planted with 1,000 shade trees such as Taiwanese banyan, Bauhinia, crape myrtle, Osaka, and Lagerstroemia, as well as fruit trees like mango, jackfruit, and hog plum. With this natural-growing, forest-like planting method, the campus becomes vibrant and welcoming. In addition to trees and flowers, there are three ponds surrounding the school, planted with lotus and water lilies.

All four sides of the buildings at FPT University Da Nang are planted with bougainvillea.

This is the second year the trees have bloomed beautifully on campus. Nguyen Quang Hoang, a business administration student, said he loves them and often takes pictures of the buildings covered in flowers.

"In Da Nang, few schools have green spaces; most of the area is dedicated to buildings. I am proud of my school and feel even more attached to this place," Hoang said.

Tran Vu Hong An, a K16 student majoring in Hotel Management, said that bougainvillea and the architectural style are characteristic of the school. The final-year student was impressed with the green planters planted along the corridors, walkways, and balconies, creating a harmonious and friendly overall atmosphere.

"My friends who come to visit or pass by my school always praise its beauty and admire it. This is truly the learning environment I've always dreamed of," An shared.

The FPT Campus in Da Nang was built in early 2018, covering an area of over 5 hectares. Currently, the campus has nearly 5,000 students.
