Nhon Trach shrimp are in high demand during the holiday season.

(Dong Nai) – According to Mr. Nguyen Huy Binh, Director of Thanh Cong Agricultural and Aquatic Products Service Cooperative in Phuoc An commune (Nhon Trach district), during the April 30th holiday, the cooperative supplied 3-5 tons of shrimp per day to the market, an increase of 2-3 times compared to the amount of shrimp sold on normal days.

Shrimp production supplied to the market has increased significantly due to higher local demand, especially for the Hanoi market, compared to normal days. Specifically, while local consumption is around 1.5 tons per day on weekdays, this increases to 2.5 tons per day during holidays and weekends, with the remainder supplied to the Hanoi market. Currently, market demand is primarily for large shrimp. The price farmers sell shrimp at their farms remains unchanged at 170,000 VND/kg for shrimp weighing 30 pieces/kg.

According to Mr. Binh, shrimp prices have remained high since the beginning of the year, sometimes reaching 200-210 thousand VND/kg. The high selling price is due to unusual weather fluctuations and outbreaks of disease affecting farmed shrimp, leading to a decrease in supply. At this price level, shrimp farmers are making good profits.

To date, members of the Thanh Cong Aquatic Agricultural Services Cooperative have expanded their shrimp farming area to over 30 hectares, all applying high-tech intensive shrimp farming methods for good economic efficiency.
