The scientific seminar "The Nguyen Thuc family, who held the title of Hoang Giap (Imperial Scholar) in Van Diem and Du Lam villages, and their connection with the Temple of Literature - National University and the cause of education, " is an activity leading up to the 950th anniversary of the founding of the National University - Vietnam's first national school (1076 - 2026).
The event not only helped to highlight the scholarly traditions of the Kinh Bac region but also inspired a spirit of learning and respect for morality in contemporary life.

The villages of Vân Điềm and Du Lâm in the former Đông Ngàn district were renowned for their tradition of learning and academic achievement. Among them, the Nguyễn Thực family, also known as the Nguyễn clan, was considered one of the most prominent, with many generations achieving academic success and holding official positions throughout the Lê dynasty, from the Lê dynasty to the Nguyễn dynasty.
The first scholar of the family was Nguyen Thuc, who passed the imperial examination in the year of At Mui (1595). Following him were: Nguyen Nghi, Nguyen Khue, Nguyen Si, Nguyen Tham, Nguyen Thuong, Nguyen Tu Gian, and Nguyen Kham.
Not only did these top scholars achieve success in the imperial examinations, but they also left many imprints in the fields of politics , military affairs, diplomacy, culture, and especially education.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Cultural and Scientific Activities Center of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giám, said that the scholars of the Nguyen Thuc family, who were awarded the title of Hoang Giap (Imperial Scholar), not only contributed to the country in many fields but also left a profound mark on education and talent training.
Notably, the family had two members who held the position of Chancellor of the Imperial Academy, Nguyen Nghi and Nguyen Tham, who directly participated in training talented individuals for the court. In particular, six of the eight Doctors of Philosophy from the family are currently listed on the Doctor of Philosophy steles at the Temple of Literature - Imperial Academy.

The conference attracted 29 presentations from researchers, scientists , and descendants of the family from various institutions such as the Institute of History, the Institute of Han Nom Studies, the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, etc., focusing on clarifying the lives and careers of the renowned scholars; the role and contributions of the family to the Temple of Literature - National University and the national education system; and proposing solutions for preserving and promoting the value of related cultural heritage.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Anh Cuong – a lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities and a descendant of the Nguyen Thuc family – believes that promoting the traditions of the Nguyen Thuc family in the modern context needs to be translated into concrete actions such as collecting and digitizing documents; translating inscriptions and Sino-Vietnamese documents; strengthening local history education; and promoting scholarship activities for the younger generation.
The conference also included an exhibition of various documents, rubbings, images, and restored materials from imperial archives and woodblock prints collected from archives and research institutes.
