Takai has joined Tottenham. |
According to the BBC , Spurs have agreed a £5 million fee to bring Takai to the club this summer. The 20-year-old is expected to join Thomas Frank's first team next season.
Takai has caught the eye of Tottenham's Technical Director, Johan Lange, and is expected to develop as strongly as other young talents at the club such as Lucas Bergvall, Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie. The Japanese center-back will partner Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin in Tottenham's defense next season.
Tottenham's management aims to finalize the signing of Takai quickly. The team will have a friendly match against Luton Town on July 26th. Takai's arrival would be an important addition to Spurs' defense for the new season.
Currently, Takai is a member of the Japanese national team with four appearances. He has also played in all J1.League matches this season for Kawasaki Frontale, scoring two goals. In addition, Takai has made nine appearances in the AFC Champions League this season.
Last year, Takai was part of the Kawasaki Frontale team that won the Japanese Super Cup. He also received the Best Young Player award during that time.
Before signing Takai, Tottenham had already completed two other deals for Danso and Mathys Tel. Spurs show no signs of stopping in the summer transfer window. The team is actively competing with Manchester United to sign Bryan Mbeumo.
