Takai joined Tottenham. |
According to BBC , Spurs have agreed a fee of £5 million to bring Takai to play this summer. The 20-year-old is expected to join manager Thomas Frank's first team next season.
Takai has been on the radar of Tottenham Technical Director Johan Lange and is expected to develop strongly like other young talents at the club such as Lucas Bergvall, Pape Matar Sarr and Destiny Udogie. The Japanese centre-back will join Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin in Tottenham's defence next season.
Tottenham's board aims to complete the deal for Takai quickly. The team will have a friendly match against Luton Town on July 26. Takai's presence will be an important addition to Spurs' defense in the new season.
Takai is currently a Japan international with four caps. He has also played in all J1 League matches this season for Kawasaki Frontale, scoring two goals. Takai has also played nine times in the AFC Champions League this season.
Last year, Takai was part of the Kawasaki Frontale team that won the Japanese Super Cup. He also received the Young Player of the Year award during this time.
Before signing Takai, Tottenham completed two other deals, Danso and Mathys Tel. Spurs have shown no signs of stopping in the summer transfer window. The team is actively competing with MU to bring Bryan Mbeumo to play.
