The school separation plan was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee after a meeting with the leaders of the City Department of Education and Training on early-level enrollment in 2024 - 2025. 

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to preside over and urgently coordinate with the Department of Home Affairs, relevant agencies and units to develop a project to reorganize Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted on the basis of separating Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted into Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted and Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School have their own legal status.

In particular, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted continues to organize and operate a specialized school. The school will be headquartered at Lot P2, 38,4ha Resettlement Area, An Khanh Ward, Thu Duc City. 

Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School is organized and operates according to the regulations in the charter of secondary schools, high schools and high schools with many levels of education. The school is headquartered at 53 Nguyen Du, Ben Nghe Ward, District 1.

Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also requested that the project need to specify a roadmap for separating the schools, resolving issues related to human resources, finance, and expertise to ensure that the two schools are qualified to operate effectively and sustainably. maintain tradition and quality of education.

In addition, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City requires stabilizing the psychology of officials, workers, students and parents of the school, ensuring compliance with the provisions of law and submitting it to the City People's Committee in April. /4.

Tran Dai Nghia High School was established in 2000 by decision of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. The school began enrolling students at the middle and high school levels from the 2000 - 2001 school year, and in 2002, the school transformed into Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted.

In recent years, in addition to the achievements of the high school level, the school has well organized educational activities at the lower secondary level, serving as a resource in training and developing the quality of education in the city. 

In the 2023 - 2024 school year, Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted (HCMC) recruits 15 classes with 535 students entering 6th grade, while there are about 4.800 registration applications.

However, to comply with the regulations of specialized high schools and the Law on Education, in the 2024 - 2025 school year, specialized high schools will no longer be able to enroll 6th grade students.
