TPO - According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and the reunification of the country (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the city will build three new book streets in the near future to further develop a reading culture.
Three new book streets will be built in District 7, Binh Tan District, and Cu Chi District. Upon completion, these new book streets will create more reading spaces, connecting with existing book streets such as Nguyen Van Binh Book Street (District 1) and Thu Duc City Book Street, forming an "ecosystem" for reading culture. This will contribute to making Ho Chi Minh City a distinctive and exemplary destination for cultural activities, tourism , publishing, and the development of reading culture.
The new Book Streets are expected to be built by the end of 2024 and be operational before April 2025.

The book streets are part of Ho Chi Minh City's key projects: "Building book streets and book spaces throughout the city, contributing to the development of reading culture for the people of Ho Chi Minh City" and "Equipping 5 million books for facilities" in the city. These projects aim to promote the development of reading culture more widely and deeply within the community.

In addition to building new book streets, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Information and Communications will mobilize social resources, striving to ensure that by the end of 2025, 5 million books will reach every citizen in the city, including: school libraries, continuing education centers, and libraries in the 21 districts and Thu Duc City.
Besides developing a reading culture, the Department of Information and Communications also collaborated with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to implement the "50 Smart Libraries for City Students" program. The goal is to create spaces and conditions for students and young people to interact, promote critical thinking and creative skills through experiential activities using modern science and technology equipment, and to foster a reading habit among young people, while also meeting the current need for physical infrastructure.
