Cherishing the military history heritage

Over the past weekend, the Vietnam Military History Museum received a record-breaking 40,000 visitors in a single day, a number unmatched by any other museum in the country.

This is a particularly significant cultural landmark of the Army and the nation, attracting people from all walks of life. Visitors feel immense pride in admiring this magnificent, unique, and modern architectural masterpiece, housing tens of thousands of artifacts that comprehensively reflect the glorious military history of the Vietnamese nation from the time of King Hung's founding to the Ho Chi Minh era, and the formation and development of the people's armed forces, with the heroic Vietnam People's Army as its core.

It's wonderful that the museum's opening has received so much public attention! Many people have traveled long distances to see the artifacts displayed both inside and outside the museum grounds. However, amidst this general joy, some people have exhibited inappropriate behavior, such as physically damaging outdoor artifacts and carelessly climbing on tanks and aircraft to pose for photos. Such actions affect the display and preservation of the artifacts, and can even cause deformation and damage. This stems from the curiosity and lack of understanding of the value of military heritage among a small number of people.

Over 150,000 artifacts displayed and preserved in the Vietnam Military History Museum represent invaluable military heritage, embodying the wisdom, blood, and sacrifices of our army and people throughout the long history of the struggle for national liberation and defense of the Fatherland. Each artifact, whether small and rudimentary like a water bottle, rubber sandals, or rope, or large and modern like an airplane, tank, or missile, contains its own story and profound historical value. These priceless artifacts, like living testaments, have been preserved and passed down through generations, reflecting the aspiration for independence and freedom, the spirit of community cohesion in repelling invaders, protecting the borders, and maintaining peace to build the nation.

The glorious history of the Vietnamese nation is marked by countless heroic victories, evoking deep emotion and pride in today's generation as they turn the pages of this heroic history. Beyond historical records, existing military legacies serve as authentic evidence of the glorious past of our ancestors. Visiting these military heritage sites empowers us, strengthens our resolve, and instills in us a sense of pride in the Vietnamese nation and its people. It fosters gratitude towards our forefathers, encourages responsible living within the community, and inspires a spirit of self-reliance, confidence, and national pride as we confidently move forward into the future.

Our current path can only be truly firm if we rely on the rich traditions of our ancestors. Among these, military heritage is an invaluable asset. Therefore, we must never (whether intentionally or unintentionally) damage historical artifacts steeped in the sweat and blood of our forefathers. We should treat this heritage with affection, understanding, political responsibility, and a high level of cultural awareness. Every citizen visiting military museums and revolutionary war relics is returning to sacred values; therefore, we must uphold the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source" so as not to be ashamed of the contributions and sacrifices of previous generations that have given us the peaceful life we ​​enjoy today.
