Recently, medical facilities in Quang Ngai province have been receiving many hospitalized cases with symptoms of abdominal pain, vomiting, and diarrhea, suspected to be caused by food poisoning. Some patients, especially children, showed signs of dehydration and exhaustion, requiring close monitoring and intensive treatment.
In the first three months of 2026, Quang Ngai province recorded two mass food poisoning incidents, with approximately 230 people hospitalized. The most recent incident involved 19 people in Tinh Khe commune who required hospital treatment, including some cases with severe conditions requiring long-term monitoring. Epidemiological investigations revealed that all patients had consumed bread – a popular street food sold locally.
Doctors report that many pediatric patients are admitted with severe vomiting, high fever, fatigue, and digestive disorders. Some cases involve children unable to eat or drink, experiencing dehydration requiring intravenous fluids and monitoring for electrolyte imbalances. If not treated promptly, prolonged dehydration can seriously affect health, especially in young children.
According to the Quang Ngai Provincial Department of Health, hot weather with high temperatures and humidity creates favorable conditions for bacteria to thrive, causing food to spoil easily and posing a risk of food poisoning, especially with ready-made street food. Therefore, the Department of Health is coordinating with relevant agencies and local authorities to strengthen inspections and supervision of food production and business establishments; and at the same time, promote awareness and guidance for organizations and individuals to comply with food safety regulations.
Along with inspections, the local authorities also requested commune and ward-level governments to strengthen supervision and communication on food safety, raising awareness of compliance with legal regulations among businesses and the public.
Authorities advise people to choose food with clear origins and guaranteed hygiene; and to limit the consumption of ready-made food sold outdoors during hot weather. Proactive prevention will help reduce the risk of food poisoning and protect the health of oneself and one's family.
