Thanks to the support of the local government and the "Hope Station" model, Mr. Nguyen Khanh Ninh Phong (Thuan Nam commune), who had served a prison sentence for gambling, has gradually stabilized his life after returning to his hometown. Currently, he runs a coffee shop and billiards service. At the launch ceremony of the model, he received a loan of 100 million VND from the Social Policy Bank to expand his business and develop his family's economy . "I feel very happy that the local government and the Social Policy Bank have accompanied and supported me, creating conditions for me to borrow capital. I will try my best to do business and develop the economy to take care of my family and become a useful member of society," said Mr. Nguyen Khanh Ninh Phong.
Towards long-term, sustainable solutions.
In recent years, the management and support of people recovering from drug addiction to reintegrate into the community has been a priority for all levels and sectors. However, this work still faces many difficulties. Many people who have recovered from addiction lack stable employment and still feel ashamed of themselves; some cases lack the care and support from family and the community, thus remaining at risk of relapse, affecting local security and order. This reality demands comprehensive, long-term, and sustainable support solutions to help people recover from addiction stabilize their lives, reduce relapse, and prevent recidivism.
Following the directives of the Provincial People's Committee and the Provincial Police leadership, the police forces of communes and wards have proactively advised local Party committees and authorities to build the "Hope Station" model. With the core role of the commune-level police force and the participation of various departments, agencies, and organizations, the model has become a bridge to support people recovering from drug addiction and those who have completed their prison sentences to overcome feelings of shame, stabilize their lives, and prevent relapse and recidivism. Since the beginning of June, the model has officially launched in several communes and wards such as Thuan Nam, Bao An, Dai Lan, Tu Bong, Cam Ranh, Dien Khanh...
Immediately after its launch, the model's members quickly implemented their tasks, focusing on psychological counseling, legal awareness campaigns, job support, livelihood creation, and coordinated management to prevent relapse. To help those recovering from addiction and those who have completed their prison sentences find stable employment, the model proactively connects with businesses and credit institutions in the area to create more job opportunities, provide financial support, and give those who have made mistakes the motivation to rise up in life.
Although newly operational, the "Hope Station" model has initially shown positive results. The model contributes to concretizing the policy of building "drug-free communes and wards," enhancing the effectiveness of social prevention, reducing relapse, and ensuring security and order in the locality. Ms. Bui Thi Xuan Khang, Vice Chairman of the Bao An Ward People's Committee, said that in the coming time, the Ward People's Committee will direct departments, agencies, and organizations to strengthen coordination and promote propaganda to raise community awareness; proactively connect with businesses, agencies, and units to create jobs and support individuals in accessing capital for economic development. At the same time, they will promptly address difficulties and obstacles in the implementation process to ensure the model operates more effectively.
With the aim of creating a solid support system for those recovering from drug addiction on their journey to reintegration into the community, the "Hope Station" model will continue to be expanded throughout the province in the coming time. Beyond connecting support resources, the model also spreads a spirit of sharing, removes barriers of shame, and creates motivation for those who have made mistakes to rise up, stabilize their lives, and become useful members of their families and society.
