Beyond temporary gifts or activities, An Giang 's youth have been focusing on more practical ways to care for children, concentrating on their learning, recreational, skill-building needs and protecting them from accidents and abuse. In reality, cases of drowning, violence, and abuse against children still occur in the province. Therefore, the Youth Union and Children's Union at all levels in the province are intensifying their efforts to raise awareness and equip children with essential skills. In the first semester of the 2025-2026 school year, the province organized 28 training courses and 432 awareness sessions on drowning prevention, abuse prevention, and injury prevention for over 310,130 children; and opened 140 swimming classes for over 6,920 children. Simultaneously, 45 communication activities on preventing social evils were conducted for over 35,400 children.
Youth organizations throughout the province also maintain numerous forums and thematic activities aimed at educating children on appropriate behavior and building a safe school environment. The entire province organized 360 activities with the theme "Building beautiful friendships, saying no to school violence," attracting approximately 4,500 children; and conducted 450 awareness campaigns on sex education, reproductive health, and HIV/AIDS prevention for over 8,670 children.
Besides equipping children with self-defense skills, the Youth Union and Children's Union branches at all levels in the province also maintain many activities to care for the material and spiritual lives of children, especially those in difficult circumstances and in remote areas. In the 2025-2026 school year, through movements such as "Small Plan," "Saving Piggy Bank for Education," "Helping Friends," and "Bicycles to Help Friends Get to School," the Children's Union branches in the province mobilized over 3 billion VND in funds, supporting more than 14,280 disadvantaged children.
Many activities to support children have been implemented synchronously from the provincial level to the grassroots, contributing to further motivating children to excel in their studies. Mr. Du Pham Huu Khuyen, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union and Chairman of the Provincial Children's Council, said: “Currently, the work of caring for children needs to focus on long-term support. Therefore, the Youth Union and Children's Council at all levels in the province are concentrating more on creating a safe and healthy environment for children to study, practice life skills, self-protection skills, and develop comprehensively.”
In response to the 2026 Action Month for Children, the Provincial Youth Union and the Provincial Children's Council continue to implement many activities to care for children during the summer. Activities are organized from June 1st to 30th for students from grades 1-12 and children aged 6-16 in residential areas. The content focuses on organizing life skills classes, traffic safety skills, drowning prevention and child abuse prevention skills; health check-ups, etc. “Youth Union branches at all levels will continue to mobilize social resources to provide scholarships, school supplies, and necessities for disadvantaged children; organize ‘Volunteer for Our Beloved Children’ activities, build playgrounds, summer activity centers, and creative experiential activities for children in remote areas,” said Mr. Du Pham Huu Khuyen.
The Provincial Youth Union, in coordination with other units, organized the An Giang Provincial Children's Counseling and Assistance Club Program in 2026 in Chau Doc Ward, with the participation of 100-200 students. The program focused on raising awareness about children's rights, the Children's Law, and skills in preventing accidents, injuries, and child abuse. Simultaneously, a cultural performance was held to celebrate the launch of the 2026 Action Month for Children, creating a fun and beneficial playground for children during the summer.
In Rach Gia ward, the care for children is being concretized through various activities in the 2026 Summer Youth Volunteer Campaign. According to the plan, the Rach Gia Ward Youth Union will organize four free swimming lessons or provide skills training to prevent drowning for children; establish a "Summer Tutor" model to support disadvantaged children; and implement summer activities and children's forums. Mr. Tran Chi Linh, Secretary of the Rach Gia Ward Youth Union, said: "Besides recreational activities, we are focusing on organizing free swimming lessons, equipping children with skills to prevent drowning, and self-protection skills. We hope that children will not only have a joyful summer but also gain essential knowledge and skills for life."
As one of the children who recently participated in free swimming lessons and medical check-ups during the summer, Tran Thi Ngoc Chau, a student at Le Van Tam Primary School in Rach Gia Ward, shared: “Before, I was very afraid of water, but after being taught safe swimming skills by the instructor, I feel more confident. I also received a free medical check-up at school, participated in many games, and received gifts, so I was very happy. I hope there will be more activities like this every summer so I can learn more useful things.”
