North Korea condemned the visit of the US aircraft carrier to South Korea as a military provocation that could lead to a "catastrophic situation."
North Korea's state news agency KCNA said today that the visit of the USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier to South Korea shows that the US nuclear strike plan against North Korea has reached its "most serious stage." This means "the risk of a nuclear war breaking out is imminent."
"This is a blatant military provocation that escalates the situation into catastrophic and irreversible consequences," KCNA said.

U.S. and South Korean forces have conducted numerous military exercises this year, involving U.S. aircraft carriers, submarines, and advanced bombers, in order to better respond to North Korea's growing nuclear and missile threats.
North Korea has repeatedly criticized joint US-South Korea military exercises, viewing them as evidence of the alliance's hostile attitude and its desire for regime change in Pyongyang. Washington and Seoul maintain that the exercises are purely defensive.
KCNA said that if faced with the threat of a nuclear attack, Pyongyang would take "necessary actions" as outlined in North Korea's nuclear doctrine, vowing to prevent "the insane moves of the U.S. and its partners to provoke a nuclear war."
"Our first swift and powerful attack will target the deterrents used by the United States, as well as the bases of the criminals on the Korean Peninsula and in the surrounding area," KCNA declared.
