The messenger traveled along the Luong River (Chu River) and encountered a storm, so he had to take shelter in the Xuan Pha Temple.

When night fell, he prayed to the village guardian deity of Xuan Pha, the Great Dragon King.

That night, the king received a dream from the village guardian spirit revealing the strategy for defeating the enemy.

The king followed that plan and indeed achieved victory. To repay the favor, the king organized a celebratory festival at the temple and bestowed upon the village's guardian deity the title of Supreme and Most Sacred Great King, also known as the Great Sea Dragon King or General Hoang Lang.
