One good news story every day, one heartwarming story every week.
The story recounts the time spent in Viet Bac. Whenever President Ho Chi Minh went on official trips, two comrades accompanied him. Fearing he would be tired, they offered to carry his backpack for him. President Ho Chi Minh disagreed, saying they should divide the load equally so each person carried their own. During a rest stop along the way, he approached the comrade next to him, picked up his backpack, and asked, "Why is your backpack so heavy while mine is so light?" He told them they should distribute their belongings evenly and taught them, "Only genuine labor brings happiness to people."
These are the precious teachings of President Ho Chi Minh in the story "Three Backpacks," which the "O Mon District Youth Union" fanpage featured in its "Stories of Ho Chi Minh's Exemplary Morality" section through a vivid video clip with an expressive narration. The video attracted considerable interaction, leaving viewers with a lasting lesson about the spirit of mutual support, compassion, and the absence of privilege and special advantages, as taught by President Ho Chi Minh.
For example, in the section "Every week, Youth Union members and young people implement one of Uncle Ho's teachings," the "O Mon District Youth Union" fanpage creates many lively video clips introducing Uncle Ho's teachings. In addition, the "O Mon District Youth Union" fanpage regularly posts information to promote awareness, identify and refute harmful and toxic information… Currently, the fanpage has nearly 7,300 followers and almost 6,000 likes, demonstrating its widespread reach and helping the posted information to spread more effectively.
Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Secretary of the O Mon District Youth Union, said: "Since October 2024, the District Youth Union has implemented the model of 'O Mon Youth's Propaganda on Learning and Following the Ideology, Morality, and Style of Ho Chi Minh on the Internet. Accordingly, one video clip will be produced and uploaded each week, introducing stories about President Ho Chi Minh and his teachings; practical examples, inspiring stories… After more than 30 videos have been released, the audience response has been very positive. “Not only are they posted on the District Youth Union's fanpage, but the fanpages and Zalo accounts of the 16 affiliated youth union branches also share and upload them… thanks to which the propaganda information has a wider reach,” Mr. Tran Thanh Nam said.
Notably, the youth union branches under the O Mon District Youth Union also have effective ways to maximize the use of social media for propaganda purposes, "using fragrant flowers to overcome weeds." According to Mr. Bui Quang Nghia, Secretary of the Chau Van Liem Ward Youth Union (O Mon District), in addition to reposting articles from the "O Mon District Youth Union" fanpage, the ward's Youth Union fanpage also publishes and disseminates propaganda information from official sources. The ward's Youth Union also implements a model of promoting e-books, mostly books on history, culture, and stories about the moral examples of Ho Chi Minh... Over time, the interest and response of youth union members to this model have increased significantly.
Mr. Tran Thanh Nam analyzed that social media, smartphones, and digital devices are closely associated with today's youth, and in reality, if properly utilized, these technologies can be very effective in their lives. Therefore, the District Youth Union diversifies its activities to utilize social media to increase interaction and contribute to providing the district's youth with good, accurate, and verified information. The O Mon District Youth Union currently has a Young Theorists Club, where most of the management board and members are Youth Union officials and also account holders of various fan pages. This approach has brought together Youth Union officials to participate in searching for, processing, posting, and disseminating information.
The Secretary of the O Mon District Youth Union shared that, with the goal of one good news story every day and one beautiful story every week, the youth of O Mon district wish to "plant fragrant flowers," contributing to the comprehensive protection of the Party's ideological foundation in cyberspace. "Sharing the beautiful, eliminating the ugly," "using fragrant flowers to gradually replace weeds," social media has algorithms based on search trends and user interest levels. Therefore, if there is a lot of positive information spreading, the algorithm will add similar suggestions, and then the "field" of social media will have more beautiful flower gardens.
Of course, limiting harmful and toxic information and spreading positive content on social media requires users to be skilled, vigilant, and able to "separate the wheat from the chaff," so that the online space becomes a "livable" place like the real world . "Through youth union activities, we also focus on reminding and guiding union members and young people on how to use social media intelligently, safely, and effectively," Nam emphasized.
Spreading the culture of our homeland.
During the Ky Yen Festival, Thoi An Temple (Thoi An Ward, O Mon District), a city-level historical site, attracted a large number of locals and tourists for sightseeing and worship. Mr. Bui Ngoc Trung, Head of the Temple's Management Board, said: "Recently, the number of visitors to the temple has been quite high, partly thanks to the youth of the district and ward promoting and introducing the site on social media. Many people said they came to admire the temple's beauty after seeing information on Facebook and YouTube. In particular, according to Mr. Trung, previously, many visitors wanted to learn about the history and architectural features of the site, but the Management Board faced difficulties because they weren't always present or couldn't explain everything in a few minutes. Therefore, since the O Mon District Youth Union implemented the installation of QR codes containing information about the site at the main gate, many visitors now scan the codes to view the information, which is very convenient." Mr. Trung said: "I think the way these young people are doing things is very good, very effective, and makes good use of the benefits of technology."
Similarly, other historical sites in O Mon district, such as Phu Luong Temple and Linh Son Ancient Temple, also have QR codes introducing the sites and integrating information about other historical sites in the area. This is a youth project, "Digitizing city-level historical sites in O Mon district," implemented by the O Mon District Youth Union since October 2024, and has proven effective. Ms. Ho Kim Hoa, from the Huong Duong Kindergarten Youth Union (O Mon district), said: "The QR codes introducing the historical sites are very convenient; users can read accurate information and images, and can also save them for long-term reference."

In recent times, the youth of O Mon district have been very dedicated to promoting the local historical traditions and cultural relics through various effective methods such as publications, thematic activities, and cultural performances. Among these, promoting the beauty of O Mon on the internet has been done with great creativity. For example, the 2025 photo contest "Youth with Historical Relics and Cultural Works in O Mon District," organized by the O Mon District Youth Union, recently concluded. Despite being the first time, it received over 400 high-quality entries. Participants took photos introducing historical relics, cultural works, and religious sites in the district and wrote introductions. Several units, such as the Thoi Long Secondary School Youth Union and the Le Loi Secondary School Youth Union, had a large number of high-quality entries. Many entries were impressive, such as the first-prize winning entry by Pham Gia Han (9th grade, Le Loi Secondary School) introducing Pothi Somron Pagoda, which was meticulously crafted and artistically executed. Gia Hân's entry alone attracted 7,000 shares and nearly 1,000 reactions, demonstrating the widespread appeal of this competition.
Mr. Tran Thanh Nam said: “In the near future, not only classified historical sites but also cultural, religious, and common historical sites in O Mon district will have QR codes attached and be promoted through various forms. With a sense of responsibility and pride for our homeland, the youth of O Mon district are very enthusiastic about this model.”

With the philosophy that "what is valuable will be spread and preserved for a long time," the youth of O Mon district are diligently "cultivating" good and lasting values in the online space. Stories and teachings of President Ho Chi Minh, and historical relics of O Mon's land and people, are vividly disseminated by the youth, serving as a way for them to learn and improve. This aims to help each individual build a model of a young person of the Ho Chi Minh generation who loves their country and fellow citizens, lives responsibly, and contributes to society.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chung, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of O Mon District, said: "The way the O Mon District Youth Union utilizes social media to promote and spread positive values is very creative. It's not just young people; with the reach of social media, all citizens can access, share, and contribute to making society better."
