According to the advisory, the overall security situation for Chinese citizens in Japan continues to deteriorate. The announcement also stated that recent remarks by Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding Taiwan have further damaged the atmosphere of people-to-people exchanges between the two countries, creating additional risks to the safety and security of Chinese citizens in Japan.
Seven Chinese airlines also informed passengers with scheduled flights to Japan that they would refund tickets or allow ticket holders to change their flight itineraries until the end of the year.

The travel warning was issued after Ms. Takaichi told lawmakers last week that Japan could use its military to intervene in any potential conflict in the Taiwan Strait, which separates Taiwan from mainland China.
She stated that any military action by China against Taiwan would create a defensive situation that could trigger a military response from Japan.
Chinese officials have asked the Japanese Prime Minister to retract her comments. However, according to China Daily, Ms. Takaichi has so far refused to retract her remarks.
Takaichi's comments were also criticized by former Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. In a radio interview on Thursday, Ishiba said Takaichi's remarks were "very close to stating that the emergency in Taiwan is also an emergency in Japan."
