Mid-Autumn Festival arrives in the small alley.

Despite having just weathered the historic floods caused by the remnants of Typhoon No. 10, the narrow alleys of Yen Bai ward still resounded with the sounds of lion dance drums, star-shaped lanterns, and the joyful laughter of children celebrating the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Many residential areas in Yen Bai ward joined hands to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival for children, not only bringing joy after days of rain and floods but also demonstrating community solidarity and the local government's concern for the younger generation.

As an area severely damaged by the recent floods, many roads were submerged, causing significant damage to property and crops, and severely impacting people's lives. However, amidst the hardship, human kindness grew even warmer. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival, though simple, was full of meaning as many small neighborhoods in various residential areas still managed to organize moonlit celebrations for children with heartfelt generosity and sharing.

Children in Tran Phu neighborhood celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival.

In Tran Phu hamlet, residential group number 8, Van Phu ward, the Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere remained full of joy. Despite limited funds, more than 20 children in the neighborhood had a joyful feast. The adults in the residential group pooled their money, some brought star-shaped lanterns, others prepared cakes and candies, arranged fruit platters, and organized traditional games for the children.

Amidst the shimmering star-shaped lanterns and cheerful children's music, 8-year-old Luc Anh Thu, a student at Kim Dong Primary School, excitedly shared: “I’m so happy to celebrate with my friends, play games, and receive gifts from the adults. My favorite is the star-shaped lantern that sparkles like the moon. I hope that every year we can celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival together so I can play with the older children in the neighborhood.”

More than just a joy for children, the Mid-Autumn Festival is also an occasion for adults to gather and chat after days of hard work. Mr. Le Trung Khanh, from Tran Phu neighborhood, residential group number 8, Van Phu ward, shared: “Yen Bai ward has just suffered a lot of damage from floods, but everyone still tried to organize the Mid-Autumn Festival for the children. Adults held a celebration, both to encourage each other to overcome difficulties and to strengthen community bonds. The atmosphere was very warm and cozy.”

Along with other small neighborhoods, the Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere was also vibrant in the Quang Trung Street neighborhood, part of Dong Tam 5 residential group, Yen Bai ward. The residents here collectively planned a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration for the children. A warm evening of festivities, complete with platters of fruit, mooncakes, lively lion dances, and many exciting games, was held right in the courtyard of the neighborhood's cultural center.

The children were delighted by the lively lion dance performance.

Ms. Phan Thi Minh Phuong, a resident of the neighborhood, shared: “We want to create a safe and joyful space so that the children can experience the traditional Mid-Autumn Festival atmosphere, especially after days affected by floods. All we hope is that the children can have a truly meaningful Mid-Autumn Festival night, where they can laugh, play, and feel the care and love from everyone around them.”

Nine-year-old Nguyen Chuong Minh, a student at Nguyen Trai Primary School, happily said: “I really enjoyed watching the lion dance! My friends also got to play quizzes and draw masks. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival was really special because everyone was happy, I got to eat lots of candy and received gifts from the aunts and uncles in the neighborhood.”

This year's Mid-Autumn Festival in Yen Bai ward may not be as vibrant or grand as in larger cities, but in residential areas that have just experienced severe natural disasters, the full moon festival has become a bonding event for the community, a symbol of love and sharing. Local Party committees and authorities have also actively mobilized and provided moral support to enable neighborhood groups and residential areas to organize Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations for children.

Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Ha, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Bai Ward, said: "We highly appreciate the proactive spirit of the people. Despite being affected by natural disasters, the residential groups still managed to bring a complete Mid-Autumn Festival to the children. This is clear evidence of the unity and solidarity of the people, a solid foundation to overcome all difficulties."

In the shimmering light of the star-shaped lanterns, amidst the laughter of children, the traces of the floods seem to fade away. This year's Mid-Autumn Festival in Yen Bai ward is not only a time for children to celebrate joy, but also a message of optimism, resilience, and community care for the future generation. Despite the storms, the bright light from the Mid-Autumn lanterns in the small street corners is enough to warm hearts, reminding us that with love and unity, life will once again be peaceful and bright.
