On the morning of June 3, shrimp farmers in Vinh Trach Dong commune (Bac Lieu City) informed Bac Lieu Newspaper about the case of being forced by traders because they thought that shrimp had an excessive amount of preservatives.
A household sold shrimp to a trader at a deducted price of 3.000 VND/kg because it was believed that shrimp contained preservatives.
According to Mr. Pham Van Chu (Bien Tay A hamlet, Vinh Trach Dong commune), the third time he took samples of shrimp for testing, the trader informed that his shrimp had used feed containing high levels of preservatives. However, the trader only informed the mouth, but did not give any test results of the authorities proving that there were preservatives in the shrimp. Not only Mr. Chu, this situation is happening in many farming households in the commune and in Dong Hai district. Accordingly, traders only buy shrimp if farmers agree to reduce the price from 3 to 3.000 VND/kg. Shrimp farming households in the commune have also contacted the feed company, which is committed to a very low preservative content according to the regulations of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Before being pressured on prices, shrimp farmers in Vinh Trach Dong commune are looking forward to the authorities to investigate and verify the status of traders making conclusions without legal basis, with the intention of taking advantage of farmers who are not knowledgeable about the shrimp testing process to buy shrimp at low prices.
