Proud of An Hoa Thinh, a land of learning.

Although the old scenery and people have changed considerably, the tradition of valuing education in An Hoa Thinh commune (Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province ) continues to flow like an ever-present stream...

The village places great importance on education.

The scholarly tradition of Son Hoa and Son Thinh communes (now An Hoa Thinh commune) was built upon many lineages, the most renowned of which were the Nguyen Khac and Dinh Nho families in the former Goi My village. Throughout the country's history, both families contributed many talented individuals, helping to write a "golden chapter" in the history of An Hoa Thinh.

The Gôi Vị Temple is dedicated to four benevolent deities of the Đinh Nho clan.

From the Le and Nguyen dynasties until before the August Revolution of 1945, Goi My was renowned as a village of outstanding scholars and cultural heritage in Huong Son. During the flourishing period of Confucianism, Huong Son had 12 high-ranking scholars, ranging from doctorates to associate doctorates, including three sons of the Dinh Nho and Nguyen Khac families from Goi My.

Currently, in An Hoa Thinh commune, relics related to figures of this family lineage, such as Goi Vi Temple (formerly Son Hoa commune), Thinh Xa Pagoda, and Bach Van Temple (formerly Son Thinh commune), have all been classified as national historical relics. Goi Vi Temple was established in the year Dinh Dau (1717), the 13th year of the Vinh Thinh reign, during the reign of King Le Du Tong. The temple worships four benevolent deities of the Dinh Nho family: Doctor Dinh Nho Cong, Doctor Dinh Nho Hoan, General Dinh Nho Con, and his wife Phan Thi Vien - the second wife of Doctor Dinh Nho Hoan.

The Bach Van Temple was founded by Doctor Dinh Nho Cong after he passed the doctoral examination in the year Canh Tuat (1670).

Related to Dr. Dinh Nho Cong is the ancient Bach Van Temple with a fascinating story involving his fellow student Tran Toan from Thanh Hoa . The Bach Van Temple was established by Dinh Nho Cong after he passed the doctoral examination in the year Canh Tuat (1670) to express his gratitude for the noble friendship of Tran Toan, and later became a place where descendants in the village prayed for academic success. After his death, Dinh Nho Cong was also enshrined in the Bach Van Temple by the people of Thinh Xa village as a village guardian deity.

In the scholarly land of An Hoa Thinh, the Nguyen Khac family is also a renowned lineage, upholding a tradition of scholarship and academic achievement. By the 11th generation, with the success of their descendant Nguyen Khac Niem in passing the Second Class Doctoral Examination (Hoang Giap) in the Dinh Mui imperial examination in Hue at the age of 18, the reputation of the Nguyen Khac family spread throughout the country.

Nguyen Khac Niem was a high-ranking official of the Nguyen dynasty, having been appointed twice as Governor of Thua Thien, Governor of Khanh Hoa, and Governor-General of Thanh Hoa. He also participated in the examination boards of various national examinations. After the August Revolution, he joined many cultural and social organizations from the commune to the provincial level and was appointed a member of the Lien Viet Committee of Zone 4.

The children of the scholar Nguyen Khac Niem also followed the family's tradition of academic excellence and contributed to the nation's development. Among them, Dr. Nguyen Khac Vien was the most outstanding, with numerous research achievements in the fields of medicine, socio-political affairs, culture, sports, psychology, and education; followed by Professor and Distinguished Educator Nguyen Khac Phi in the field of teaching and literary research.

The writer Nguyen Khac Phe, son of the scholar Nguyen Khac Niem, also dedicated many pages in his works to expressing his pride in being born in a land rich in cultural and historical traditions. In his work "Unpredictable Fate" (page 10), he wrote extensively about his homeland: "...The land with the sacred spirit of the rivers and mountains that nurtured and protected me during my childhood years is also the crucial 'starting point' of my life..."

Succession of the next generation

Like an ever-flowing stream, generations of descendants in An Hoa Thinh commune have continued and upheld the tradition of studiousness of their ancestors, cultivating knowledge to build an increasingly prosperous and beautiful homeland. Above all, this remains a village where people prioritize education. The work of building learning-promoting clans and families is incorporated into the village's regulations and customs.

Generations of the Dinh Nho family have always remembered and been grateful to their ancestors.

Mr. Dinh Nho Giang, a member of the Dinh Nho clan, said: "To encourage the spirit of learning among the younger generation, the clan has established a scholarship fund. Every year, we award prizes to students with high academic achievements. Many of them have become successful professors and doctors, bringing honor and pride to the entire clan."

The promotion of education within the Nguyen Khac clan has always been a top priority. Every year, on the anniversary of the clan's founding on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month, the clan holds a ceremony to report to their ancestors and reward descendants who have achieved good academic results.

The descendants of the Nguyen Khac family continue to uphold the studious spirit of their ancestors.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tung, Head of the Nguyen Khac Clan's Education Promotion Committee, said: "To instill pride and determination to overcome difficulties and strive for success, the elders always educate their children and grandchildren about the fine traditions of our clan. We also maintain an education promotion fund of over 100 million VND to provide awards and encouragement to our descendants."

At the junior high school named after Dr. Nguyen Khac Vien in An Hoa Thinh commune, teachers and students have been striving to follow in the footsteps of previous generations to bring honor to their homeland.

Teachers and students of Nguyen Khac Vien Secondary School are always proud of their hometown's traditions.

Ms. Ha Thi Thuong Huyen, the school's Vice Principal, said: "We are very happy that the current generation of students has strived to continue writing the 'golden history' of our homeland, working hard in their studies and work to build a more prosperous and beautiful homeland. Most recently, in the 2022-2023 school year, the school ranked first in the district with 58 awards in the Olympic competitions for cultural subjects; and also won 8 awards in the provincial-level excellent student competition..."

Continuing the cultural traditions of their homeland, generations of descendants of the Nguyen Khac and Dinh Nho families in particular, and An Hoa Thinh commune in general, have achieved many accomplishments that bring honor to their ancestors. Many of them are renowned professors, doctors, scientists, and successful entrepreneurs... who have worked and are currently working both domestically and internationally, serving as proof of their academic achievements and success.

Expressing his hopes for future generations, writer Nguyen Khac Phe stated: “Living in a vibrant and developing society like today, I hope that the young people of my homeland will continuously cultivate their knowledge to meet the demands of the new era. Besides that, they must always cherish and preserve the good character and qualities that our ancestors have nurtured over generations...”
