On January 11th, Ms. Rah Lan Dinh, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ia Pal commune, Chu Se district ( Gia Lai province), confirmed that a toad meat poisoning incident had occurred in the area, resulting in the deaths of two children and the hospitalization of one child.
According to initial information, at around 10:00 AM on the same day, three sisters, S.HN (born in 2013), SH (born in 2018), and ST (born in 2020), all residing in Tao Roong village, Ia Pal commune, were eating toad meat. Around 11:30 AM, family members found them lying motionless on the floor, incontinent, and rushed them to the Chư Sê District Medical Center for emergency treatment.
The youngest child is currently receiving emergency treatment at Gia Lai Children's Hospital (photo by HT).
According to the Chư Sê District Health Center, upon admission, S. HN had already suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest, maximally dilated pupils, an undetectable pulse, and unmeasurable blood pressure. Despite the doctors' efforts to resuscitate her, her condition did not improve, and she subsequently died.
SH and ST were admitted to the hospital in a lethargic state, vomiting, and were diagnosed by doctors with toad meat poisoning. After receiving intensive emergency treatment, both patients were transferred to Gia Lai Provincial Children's Hospital for further treatment. However, S.H. died en route to the hospital.
Currently, ST is receiving intensive treatment at the Intensive Care and Toxicology Unit (Gia Lai Children's Hospital).
Apparently, the father caught the toads yesterday. While their father and grandmother were away, the three sisters took the toads out and butchered them to eat.
