* PRE-MATCH ANALYSIS

Progress of the Cambodian Women's National Team

The Cambodian women's football team, led by coach Gao Fulin, made history by reaching the SEA Games semi-finals for the first time. They performed exceptionally well in the group stage, winning 2-0 against Laos, 1-0 against Singapore, and only losing 0-3 to Thailand after having already secured their place in the semi-finals.

Under the guidance of coach Gao Fulin, the Cambodian women's team plays more aggressively than before, with players possessing clearer tactical awareness and sharper attacks. In the home team's lineup, strikers Yoeun and Kunthea have excellent speed and goal-scoring ability. However, the players' positions on the field are not yet fully balanced, and they often lose rhythm in their coordination when surrounded by opponents. The Cambodian women's defense has relatively good physique but lacks solidity, evidenced by the fact that they conceded 3 goals to Thailand. However, overall, the Cambodian women's football team has made significant progress compared to previous SEA Games.

The SEA Games organizers also decided to change the schedule to 7 PM (the old schedule was 4 PM) and move the match to the Olympic Stadium, which has a capacity of up to 50,000 seats, so that the players could be further energized by the fans.

Coach Mai Duc Chung: 'The Cambodian women's team reaching the semi-finals means they are not weak.'

Coach Gao Fulin expressed his determination when he stated: "The Vietnamese women's football team is very strong, but we will play with 100% of our ability to give the fans a great match and possibly create a surprise against Vietnam ."

Vietnamese women still hold the senior position.

The Cambodian women's team has made significant progress, but at the moment they are still not a worthy opponent for the reigning SEA Games champions. Recently, Cambodia lost 0-7 to Vietnam at the SEA Games 31 (May 2022). At the Southeast Asian Championships in July 2022, the Vietnamese girls easily defeated Cambodia 3-0. Therefore, it can be said that if they play to their full potential, Huynh Nhu and her teammates will secure a place in the final.

Before the match against Cambodia, coach Mai Duc Chung instructed his players to be cautious and not to be complacent, because Cambodia, like Thailand, Myanmar, and the Philippines, now plays organized football with sharp attacking tactics. "Cambodia is improving very quickly under the coaching of coach Gao Fulin, so I require the players to stay focused. We also anticipate the pressure from the stadium, so we have prepared the players mentally," coach Mai Duc Chung emphasized.

While acknowledging the strength of their opponents, the 72-year-old coach is also planning for the final. It's highly likely that the Vietnamese women's football team will field their strongest lineup, but after scoring a goal and taking a comfortable lead, Coach Mai Duc Chung will likely rest key players to conserve energy for the final on May 15th.

While Vietnam faced a relatively weak opponent, Thailand had to fight a do-or-die battle against Myanmar at the Army Stadium in the second semi-final. Thailand was considered the favorite, but Myanmar played very tenaciously, making it a difficult match for the Thais.
