Promoting the role of the elderly

Comrade Nguyen Thanh Van - Deputy Head of the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board said: The whole province currently has over 245,000 elderly members, operating in 2,328 branches. Identifying the elderly as a group of people with an important role in family and society, in recent times, the Elderly Associations at all levels in the province have constantly innovated content; proactively and creatively developed plans to improve operational efficiency, practically care for, and promote the role of the elderly...

The Provincial Association of the Elderly regularly guides and strongly implements the emulation movement "Old age - bright example" in all fields, at all levels of the association from the province to the grassroots; associated with the campaigns of the elderly, emulation movements, working themes and socio -economic development tasks of the province and the locality. In particular, focusing on participating in Party building, government building; effectively implementing the province's annual working theme; participating in building new rural areas - civilized urban areas, building model residential areas, typical residential areas...

Up to now, the whole province has over 9,200 elderly people participating in social work such as the Party, government, Fatherland Front, people's inspectors, unions, mediation...; 525 elderly people are farm owners, business owners and 2,244 elderly people are good at economics, actively contributing to the implementation of local socio-economic development tasks.

Mr. Dang Dinh Dien - Senior Citizen Association member of Ha Thanh area, Tan Lap commune, Thanh Son district is still actively participating in economic development.

Not only pioneering in economic development, the elderly also actively participate in Party, government and mass organizations at the grassroots level. Mr. Dang Dinh Dien in Ha Thanh area, Tan Lap commune, Thanh Son district is such an example. This year, although he is over 70 years old, Mr. Dien is still actively participating in local work, he is currently the Secretary of the Ha Thanh area Party cell. Mr. Dien always keeps in mind: "As long as you are healthy, you can contribute..." With a sense of responsibility, he is always exemplary in implementing all policies and guidelines of the Party and State; he regularly helps and mobilizes people in the area to convert crop and livestock varieties, as well as imparts experiences, scientific and technical advances in production, livestock and poultry farming and takes the lead in patriotic emulation movements in the locality. Therefore, no matter what position he holds, Mr. Dien always completes his tasks well, is recognized by authorities at all levels, and is loved by local people.

With the motto "Live happily, live healthily, live usefully", the elderly in the province have also established 1,866 sports , cultural, and artistic clubs... attracting thousands of members. Since joining these clubs, the lives of the elderly have changed a lot, their spirits are more optimistic and cheerful, and their health is improving day by day...

Building an Intergenerational Club Model

Implementing the Project to replicate the model of "Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs" in the province, the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board has actively directed and guided the Elderly Association Representative Boards of districts, cities and towns to propagate, mobilize and organize the establishment of clubs at the grassroots level. Up to now, the province has established 13 "Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs" in the districts of Doan Hung, Tam Nong, Lam Thao, Phu Ninh, Ha Hoa, Yen Lap and Viet Tri city with 794 participating members, the total club fund reached over 1.3 billion VND.

The club has created a useful playground, connecting members to support each other to improve the quality of life of the elderly. Mr. Bui Van Sach - Head of the "Intergenerational Self-Help" Club in Zone 4, Thanh Dinh Commune, Viet Tri City said: The club was established in July 2018 with 50 members and built a fund of 145 million VND. Up to now, the club has over 60 members with a total fund of over 400 million VND. This model not only helps the elderly overcome difficulties in life but also promotes economic development, supports households in starting a business, and improves income. In addition, the club also promotes the spirit of mutual love and support such as visiting and encouraging members in difficult circumstances, natural disasters, fires, sudden difficulties, etc.

In Doan Hung district, there are currently 4 "Intergenerational Self-Help" Clubs deployed in the communes of Hop Nhat, Tay Coc and Chan Mong. The outstanding feature of the Club is that its members regularly promote the role of self-help activities, support the community, and help people in many forms such as helping poor households, supporting crop harvests for members who are sick or in trouble, coordinating with local Party committees and authorities to undertake waste collection and environmental sanitation... These activities not only help connect members but are also recognized and highly appreciated by all levels and functional sectors.

Through health care activities, economic and spiritual support, the clubs have created a space for connecting generations, helping the elderly not only live happily and healthily but also actively participate in preserving and promoting local traditional values.

Through specific and practical actions, cadres, members and the elderly have made important contributions to the socio-economic development of the locality, worthy of being a shining example for their children and grandchildren to learn from and follow.
