Promoting the role of the elderly.
Comrade Nguyen Thanh Van, Deputy Head of the Provincial Association of Elderly People's Representatives, stated: The province currently has over 245,000 elderly members, operating in 2,328 branches. Recognizing that the elderly play an important role in the family and society, the Associations of Elderly People at all levels in the province have continuously innovated their activities; proactively and creatively developed plans to improve the effectiveness of their work, practically caring for and promoting the role of the elderly...
The Provincial Association of Elderly People regularly guides and vigorously implements the "Elderly - Shining Examples" emulation movement in all fields, at all levels of the association from the province to the grassroots; linking it with the campaigns of the elderly, emulation movements, work themes and tasks of socio -economic development of the province and localities. In particular, it focuses on participating in Party building and government building; effectively implementing the province's annual work theme; participating in building new rural areas - civilized urban areas, building model residential areas, exemplary residential areas...
To date, the province has over 9,200 elderly people participating in social work such as Party, government, Fatherland Front, people's inspection, mass organizations, mediation, etc.; 525 elderly people are farm owners and business owners, and 2,244 elderly people are successful in business, making positive contributions to the implementation of the local socio-economic development tasks.
Mr. Dang Dinh Dien, a senior citizen member from Ha Thanh area, Tan Lap commune, Thanh Son district, continues to actively participate in economic development.
Not only are they pioneers in economic development, but the elderly also actively participate in Party, government, and mass organization work at the grassroots level. Mr. Dang Dinh Dien in Ha Thanh area, Tan Lap commune, Thanh Son district is a prime example. This year, despite being over 70 years old, Mr. Dien is still actively involved in local work, currently serving as the Party Secretary of Ha Thanh area. Mr. Dien always believes: "As long as I have my health, I will continue to contribute..." With a sense of responsibility, he always sets a good example in implementing all the policies and guidelines of the Party and the State; he regularly helps and encourages people in the area to switch to new crop and livestock varieties, as well as sharing experiences and scientific and technical advancements in production and livestock farming, and leading in patriotic emulation movements in the locality. Therefore, regardless of his position, Mr. Dien always performs his duties well, is recognized by all levels of government, and is loved by the local people.
With the motto "Live happily, live healthily, live usefully," the elderly in the province have also established 1,866 sports , cultural, and arts clubs, attracting thousands of members. Since joining these clubs, the lives of the elderly members have changed significantly, their spirits are more optimistic and cheerful, and their health is improving.
The NCT (National Health and Wellness Club) in Doan Ha commune, Thanh Thuy district, regularly practices morning exercises to improve their health.
Building a model for an intergenerational club.
Implementing the project to replicate the "Intergenerational Self-Help Club" model throughout the province, the Provincial Representative Board of the Elderly Association has actively directed and guided the Representative Boards of the Elderly Associations in districts, cities, and towns to promote, mobilize, and organize the establishment of clubs at the grassroots level. To date, the entire province has established 13 "Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs" in the districts of Đoan Hùng, Tam Nông, Lâm Thao, Phù Ninh, Hạ Hòa, Yên Lập, and Việt Trì city, with 794 members participating and a total club fund exceeding 1.3 billion VND.
The club has created a beneficial environment, fostering connections among members to support each other and improve the quality of life for the elderly. Mr. Bui Van Sach, Chairman of the "Intergenerational Self-Help" Club in Zone 4, Thanh Dinh Commune, Viet Tri City, stated: The club was established in July 2018 with 50 members and a fund of 145 million VND. To date, the club has over 60 members with a total fund exceeding 400 million VND. This model not only helps the elderly overcome life's difficulties but also promotes economic development, supporting families in starting businesses and improving their income. Furthermore, the club promotes a spirit of mutual support and compassion, such as visiting and encouraging members facing hardship, natural disasters, fires, or unexpected difficulties.
In Doan Hung district, there are currently four "Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs" implemented in the communes of Hop Nhat, Tay Coc, and Chan Mong. A notable feature of these clubs is that members consistently emphasize the role of self-help activities, supporting the community and assisting people in various ways such as helping poor households, assisting members with harvesting crops when they are sick or in distress, and coordinating with local Party committees and authorities to collect waste and clean the environment. These activities not only strengthen member bonds but are also recognized and highly appreciated by relevant authorities and agencies.
Through healthcare, economic, and spiritual support activities, the clubs have created a space for intergenerational connection, helping the elderly not only live happily and healthily but also actively participate in preserving and promoting local traditional values.
Through concrete and practical actions, officials, members, and elderly people have made significant contributions to the socio-economic development of the locality, deserving to be shining examples for their descendants to learn from and emulate.
