In mid-December 2025, the Can Tho City Youth Union, the Can Tho City Department of Education and Training, in coordination with the Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund Management Board and the "For the Beloved Hoang Sa - Truong Sa" Club, awarded 135 scholarships (1 million VND/scholarship) to disadvantaged students, children of officers and professional soldiers of the Can Tho City Border Guard.
The Vu A Dinh Scholarship Fund is a social fund operating with the goal of caring for and supporting ethnic minority students, students from remote areas, and children of fishermen and those serving in border and island areas. The support of this scholarship fund and the "For the Beloved Hoang Sa - Truong Sa" Club has contributed to fulfilling the educational dreams of students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
As one of the students receiving the Vu A Dinh scholarship, Tran Thi Xuan Mai, a student in class 11A8 at Nguyen Khuyen High School in Vinh Chau ward, emotionally shared: “I hope to have the opportunity to study at university so that I can have a stable job in the future, support myself, and help my family. The care and support from organizations and individuals not only helps me with my study expenses but also serves as encouragement, giving me more confidence and strength to continue pursuing my dreams.”
From 2022 to the present, the city's Youth Union branches have implemented many activities to care for and support disadvantaged students, such as: "Dream Bus," "Piggy Bank for the Poor," "Supporting Students to School," "Scholarships to Light Up Dreams," etc. Through these programs, thousands of scholarships and gifts have been distributed to students with special circumstances (orphans, disabled, or from poor or near-poor households), totaling over 5.2 billion VND. In particular, the "Dream Bus" program, launched in 2021, has sponsored 29 students who overcame difficulties in their studies and orphans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Each month, the program provides support of 1-3 million VND per student until they complete high school. To date, 15 students have completed high school, many of whom are now attending university or college.
Many volunteer models for social welfare have been effectively implemented and spread throughout the community by Youth Union branches at all levels. Typical examples include: "Social Welfare Gift Bags," "Volunteer work to help eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses," and "Supporting the Sick"...
According to Ms. Phan Anh Trang, Secretary of the Youth Union of the People's Committee of Can Tho City, the City's Youth Union has 68 affiliated branches, with nearly 7,400 members working in agencies, public service units, schools, and businesses. These branches have implemented many volunteer models linked to their professional strengths, bringing practical benefits to the people. For example, young people in hospitals organize free medical examinations and distribute free medicine to patients from policy beneficiary families and households with difficult circumstances; young people in departments and sectors undertake training and technology transfer to help farmers develop their economy ...
According to Ms. Phan Anh Trang, from the end of December 2025 to the end of February 2026, the City People's Committee Youth Union will focus on implementing the "Spring Volunteer" campaign, with many meaningful activities: giving gifts to policy beneficiary families and poor households; providing free medical examinations and medicine for people and children in remote areas; and many activities to care for young workers. These activities contribute to promoting the pioneering and volunteer role of young people in ensuring social welfare in the locality.
